Thinking of buying this '69

Hello from Australia!

I've been looking for a Charger for a while now, and I think I've found one, so I thought I'd post up a few pictures and see what you guys might have to say? Apologies for the photos. They're not quite what I was wanting - my friend was the one with the camera, I was busy looking over the car.

It's a 1969, non-numbers matching, 383/4-barrel.

It's a California car, and seems to have all the standard Charger rust - lower quarters, trunk floor, rear window, etc - but the rails and pillars seem to be in good condition. Somebody has obviously had a go at patching some of the rust in the past and done a pretty crappy job of it.

I know it'd be a big project, but it's definitely not the worst I've seen by a long shot.

g'day , right back from australia. are you going to do the work yourself or farm it out?

Rosco

Yeah, I'd be doing the majority myself, especially the body work. Along with help from some friends too.

How much??? It has some potentially REAL nasty rot by the back window.

Just guessing I would say this car shouldn't go for more than $7,500.

Yeah, I'm going to use that to try and talk the price down.
They want more than 7k haha, but overall I think its worth it if I can get it down a bit. Frame being solid, etc.
Whatever the case, buying it here in Australia stings you as you're paying for the import fees, shipping costs etc, so you're paying more than what the car itself is worth. That's just how it I guess.

cant really  tell from pictures , but looking at the back glass area like wahst been mentioned  , & lower rear quarters ,  figure trunk floor & extentions  need replacing too ,  hopefully the rear frame rails have not started rotting inside out from leaking water through a rotted out  trunk floor !!!  need more pictures on the under side ,
& stuff & panels ,  seems a good price though  if thats all the rot it thats shown in the pictures  :scratchchin:

looks like Y2 original color  :drool5:

cant see a fender tag , has it got a broadcast sheet ?

No, no Fender Tag, haven't found the broadcast sheet, but I havent been able to pull the rear seat apart yet and look, so hopefully it's tucked away somewhere.
Yeah, like I said they want a fair bit more than 7500, but considering import costs, and the new set of AR wheels and T/A radials - not that I'll need them for a while haha - I think it's worth it.
Yeah, hopefully the hidden rust isn't too bad, but that's a gamble you have to take I suppose... They're hardly going to let me start cutting out boot floors and panel sections before I buy it :P

Hey Rosco....

Nice Car! A bit of work, but anything is doable!

It is about the same amount of work as mine, but at least my floors and frame were good.

Where are you from??

I wouldn't be spending much more than $15-20k. If it cost $10k then shipping would only be around $6-7k including import approvals etc

I say buy it, rebuild it and enjoy the heck out of it.  :yesnod:

I'm in Victoria, Australia, in the Latrobe Valley.
Yeah, frame rails, etc, seem alright - hopefully they aren't hiding anything!
Boot floor needs to be replaced, and there's some thin spots in the floor in front of the back seat, so I'll have to work out weather to patch it or buy a replacement floor.

Maybe it was stored at the beach. That's a 7k car at the most. I'm sure the rust is double what we can see.

The problem is in Aus, people think they can rip you blind as there are not too many of these cars around especially if they imported it themselves. If the original importer paid more for the car initially, they will want their money back plus a few extra $$$ for their efforts.

Even a $7k car in the US could cost no less than $14k in Aus after importing it.

But that is the beauty of owning one of these in Aus, there aren't too many around

My charger was way worse then that when I got it.
I agree with Mopar Nut.
Go for it. :2thumbs:

Rosco

Darkman,
I didn't see the second part of your earlier post - the 15/20k
It's got 15.9k on it, but I think I can probably talk it down a bit.
And as I said, it's also got new rims and tires on it, whic they're happy to take off and drop the price, but I may as well get them with it now, sice they're pretty much what I was thinking of getting.
And yeah, arguably theyre worth more over here, as they're a lot rarer. Supply and demand haha

hay Rosco,  have you looked at importing yourself or are you going off what your told? i imported a 18500 roadrunner 18 months ago all up including price of car i had it on the road for 23000,only costs 2750 to import if you shop around    :2thumbs:   Phil

How much money am I prepared to spend on it..? The same as every guy spends on his project car - too much!  :P
Going to rebuild the vast majority, yes. Gonna try and do as much as I can myself, or with help from some friends.

I have, but I'd rather just get one that's already here. Like I said, I wouldn't want to buy one without seeing it myself, so I'd have to add in travel costs to see it, time taken off work where I won't be earning anything, etc.

I see..it is over in the land down under..well still I would keep looking unless it fits your budget.
