My extinguisher is very old and I'm wondering what you guys keep in the car? (Also where to get a good price!)  :scratchchin:

I also have a Halon in the Charger.  I actually have about a dozen of them in my house and shop.

Great...I was hoping I'd find more expensive stuff I can't live without....dammit...

So which of those is the one to get?  150 lbs seems a bit overkill so how about the 2.5 lb version?  :icon_smile_big:

What's the common size one?  1 lb?  I'd like to keep it behind the passenger seat with bracket bolted to the floor for quick access and I think that standard size would work fine.  Does it mater that these are no USCG Approved?  Any other halon's out there that are?

Budweiser doesn't work. Don't ask how I know.

I use only halon types because I don't want to ruin electrical and paint along with toasting all the aluminum, in a worst case. In other words I'd rather be 80% screwed than 100% screwed if it's going to happen. :eek2:

I was curious about Dino's question, so I searched the USCG site. The USCG Circular NVIC 13-86 indicates that nearly all extinguishers, when halon or the equivalent, meet the USCG standard when they also meet UL (Underwriters Laboratory) standard. USCG clearly stated that UL standards have significantly upgraded over the years, and UL standards alone are sufficient, in nearly all testing and useage. USCG does not mandate an USCG approval as long as the UL approval is current.

So while a certain extinguisher's technical features may matter in a marine setting, I doubt it matters for an auto fire. (Marine setting meaning a 40, 60, 80 foot boat and advanced type of equipment). It's especially about capacity and accessibility as the boat gets bigger. Right size and right number, on board, matters. For a fee manufacturers can seek USCG approval in addition to UL.

I have a 2.5 pound halotron mounted behind the drivers seat. Common is 1# and 2.5#. 1# seems to me to be useless (bam, 10 seconds and it's empty). Lots of companies sell on line, usually $80-90. It's the shipping that kills you, and sometimes with large handling fees too, depending on your state. Google shop it and you find dozens of companies.

I might have a extra 2.5# Halon if you are interested.  It is probably a few years old, but will work perfectly, let me know.
