I just bought a 1969 dodge charger.  It is a H code 383.  The color on the outside is yellow.  It has a tan vinyl top and came with green interior.  I bought it from the original owner and she stated that is how she ordered it from the dealer.  Is this combo rare?  :scratchchin:

Thanks,

Mike

Tan vinyl tops were not one of the popular colors.  Mostly came on cars that were bronze colored.  However, the green interior I think is more common than you think.  Check out http://www.1969chargerregistry.com/   Chris is one of our moderators on here!   :2thumbs:

I meant the color combo together as rare.  Yellow with a tan top and green interior.  Does not look good together at all.

Sounds like an oddball for sure, but then again it would probably stand out (in a good way).

You have pics of this car??  :popcrn:

Is this combo rare?  :scratchchin:

"Rare" requires the use of a finite number as a basis for comparison. Since there are no production numbers on combinations of items like that, it is impossible to know if it is 'rare'.
However...there is a reason why you do not see many equipped like that.
I'm guessing you know that reason.
Interesting car.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

I don't think it was very "rare" but it wasn't common either.  Your car was probably Sunfire Yellow.  I know it isn't a '69 but here is a 1970 Charger RT/SE that is Top Banana Yellow with green interior.  You don't see the color combo often but it is definitely unique.  This particular car did not have a vinyl top but I have seen yellow cars with tan tops.

Using the chart from the dealer upholstery guide you can see that Y2 yellow with green interior is an acceptable color combination.  There are color combos that are "not recommended but acceptable" as well.

BUT.....here could be the kicker....the tan vinyl roof with the Y2 exterior & green interior "shouldnt" have happened....

According to this page in the book

As it stands right now I do not have any Y2/C6G-CRG/V1T optioned cars in the registry.   I have several Y2/C6G-CRG with either Black or green tops but none with tan tops....

Yours would be the first....do you have the fender tag or broadcast sheet to back up the claim of the options?  Curious to see if it has a variance code on it.

I'm in the camp of the later ( especially if someone had the gonads to keep it the original color opposite of peer pressure )..

Working on the pictures.  Charger will not be here for another week.  Have to wait until then to get the fender tag picture.
I love odd combo's as well, but that combo to me is ugly.  Have to really want to keep the combo.  I could see it if it had a green vinyl top, but tan is over the top.  Everything on that car is stock.  She is giving me a book with alot of photos of the car from way back.

I can wait for pics; :popcrn: but, looking at Chriss' chart, I find it funny the on the Y4 gold, you could get green interior :eek2: but you couldn't get the tan interior :scratchchin:

I have to agree with you but go further and say that I just couldn't go with that combination. If I did, I can see getting real tired of it really soon then be annoyed if I couldn't do anything about it (Meaning not having the money to change it) and regret that I didn't change it to what I really like in the first place. But hey, that's just me.
