Can any one recommend a correct seal compound I need to re-install the rear glass in my 68?  I plan to look on Mopar Muscle to see the process in the mean time.  Thanks.

Actually, it was one of the few things I had someone else do on my car.

Yeah that's what was suggested to me also!  Thanks

5/16" butyl tape, located at any parts store. I used 3M brand, about 16 bucks for a 15' roll. It includes the 2 rubber block spacers that goes at the bottom of the glass.

I didn't take the car apart for it's resto and the people that did have forgot where some things go. I don't know anything about two blocks at the glass bottom unless you mean there are two stand off blocks so the glass does not sit directly on the metal? Oh the joy of figuring out this puzzle!  Thanks.

I bought a roll of 8 mm butyl tape from a local parts store and cut 2 spacers out of a thick rubber gasket.

Check out this thread, Reply #11 is a write up on how I installed my back glass. Scroll down to reply #16, there is a drawing I made describing the placement of the rubber spacers.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Jason.  I will check it out right now!  Every little bit helps.

I used a sealent delivered by tube which requires a dam, and is a more involved process.  That is how the factory did it, and if you want to go that route, this might help.

Holy cow Heavy!  I had no idea what was involved.  OK back to a possible plan "C"????   :shruggy:

Well, I overthink and overkill just about everything.......there's ways to simplify the process, but that way worked for me.

Mine became so involved because of an un-even pinch weld.  If these cars were straight and true from the factory, or didn't have lots of body work, things like this would be easier.

Take your time, and good luck.

When they did mine I watched. First primer the edge of the glass. They had used this black stuff and a foam brush, running it around the glass in from the edge about an inch. (try to make it nice and even) Then you position the glass sitting on foam from the pinch weld. About 5/8" up from the weld and centered up/down in the opening with the 2 blocks everyone keeps talking about. Use a black butyl sealant and caulk around both the inside and outside. Using a lot of coffee stir sticks or the like working it smooth and flat. Work it around to the bottom and finally pull the blocks and finish the sealant. Like I said, it cost me about $200 to watch...Course he did the windshield too...
