Don't know about "flags being raised" or people that think it was a converted 500.......That makes me laugh.

... me too

This car is on the list, been with the original owner until I aquired it, is known by all the wing car people in the hobby - all numbers authenticated. Has many prototype parts in the nose etc. etc.

I didn't realize anyone was seriously questioning this car's provenance, to be honest.  Sad commentary (about the naysayers, not the car!).

I am proud to own it

It's in great hands.

Thanks Geno - But I need to stop taking stuff apart and just drive these cars!  :yesnod:

Well, it's been over seven years...and guess what?
Still not painted! Ready for paint though. Since then, I have discovered a few other interesting differences, which I will report on soon.
I am only painting the exterior. The car had zero rust. The undercarriage and interior are very nice and keeping things like that as original as possible.

Beep Beep Dave

I remember being told of this Daytona's existence by some people in his general area. Then years later it appeared as Dr Cheeseborough decided to sell it. I watched with great interest when it was auctioned off.

It went for more than what i could afford at the time and i am glad Jim ended up with it.

Great car with a great story although I think the good Dr embellished a few details....which really there was no reason to do as clearly the car can stand on its own merits.

1970 Charger R/T

mr. hemi

I met the doctor back in 1980 while on a car buying tour in his area. Spoke at length with him about the Daytona, but at the time he would not part with it. I tried once or twice a year for the next 5 years or so but he wouldn't budge. I eventually gave up. He had a few other "treasures" in his garage at the time as well. '57 or '58 Caddy, a couple of Healey 3000's. The included photo is of the Daytona in his dirt floor garage as I saw it in 1980. Sorry now I did not take more photos. When I saw the auction video it was long after the sale. A lot of the doctor's narrative in the video did not exactly match up with my recollection of our previous long ago discussions. Although nothing to question the authenticity of the car. Good luck to the current owner, I look forward to seeing the Daytona again in the future.
You know you are vintage when someone says, "Back in the day", and you can dispute their facts.

684: 1969 Dodge Special Edition Daytona
One owner, 34,027 original miles - VIN # XX29L9B414619 as reported by owner and as verified by Ontario Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP). Bought new from a dealer in Kingston, Ontario. The dealer obtained the car from Dodge after seeing it at the Toronto Auto Show. Dealer installed six pack and dealer painted one time in 1970 after original paint started flaking. The dealer re-paint is an exact color match. This car is one of only 10 Special Editions in existence, and it is only one of two cars in Canada with leather interior. It has all of the Special Edition features and most parts have the original numbers. The vehicle hasn't been licensed since 2004 but has been started on occasion. It starts and runs perfectly. The original dark navy blue leather interior is in fantastic condition and includes a wood grain dash and electric windows among other special edition features. Original warranty card and other documentation is available. This vehicle was the first Special Edition on the shipping list from Dodge. This is your chance to own a piece of automotive history!

Is this the car that never had the wing braces in the trunk right from the start ?
Yes, this is that car.

DC-93 tried the very early production bolt in wing "washer", late June, 1969.   It wasn't good enough and was removed, leaving the holes along the trunk flange. Photo below is from the Lockheed brochure. Pic taken at the Dan Gurney, Bobby Isaac test at Riverside, CA. December 1969.
I believe there is only one Daytona around that has the bolt in wing washers.  XX29L9B287970, #501 on the shipping list

DC-93 also had the early stripe with the slant "A" on them.  That stripe was applied when the car was updated to a Daytona, late June, before the first "production-like" wing car test at CPG July 13th., 1969.

This was a month and a half before the production Daytonas were mass produced by Creative in mid August, 1969.
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

maxwellwedge

That's cool - thank you.
Mine was around a month and a half before they started the mass conversions.
So many differences from the other Daytona's I have owned. Even the fender scoops are different.

Different scoops??
Need pics, man!!!

And yes Dave, that is DC-93 testing at Daytona, August, 1969.

maxwellwedge

No problem - I'll post up pics of the scoops in a few days.

DC-93 has the correct, production part numbers on the scoops, but they are taller than later scoops.
This was measured off the car.

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

maxwellwedge

I know!  ;)
The scoops are at the resto shop and I have asked for pics of mine vs standard production.
I haven't had a chance to drive out there and see for myself.
I'll text him again right now!

maxwellwedge

I was just sent pics of my scoops.
The green ones are regular production off of another Daytona.
I will get better pics once I get over to the shop.
