Good 4 Speed for 440?

I am building a '69 Charger, originally a 383 car with an auto transmission. I have decided to put a 440 in it and I want to make it a 4 speed rather than auto. I already purchased a '72 440, I forget what it came out of but it was definitely a car, not an rv. It also was originally in front of an auto 727. What would be a good 4 speed to mate up to it? What kind of modifications should I expect to make to the engine to make it compatible with the new 4 speed? Thanks for your help.

Any 23 spline, or if you just have to have one for braggin' rights, the 18 spline "Hemi" 4-speed. Although I've never seen anybody break an 833 23 spline unit, I'm sure naything CAN be broken. Check out the link at the tp of this section for pictures of a typical B-body 4-speed.

Might check that cranks pilot hole. Two things. First, it may, or may not be bored deep enough, and I have seen what's referred to as a "conversion" Pilot bushing. The stock bushing is one size and the conversion bushing is about .030 smaller. So, if you can seem to get a pilot bushing in your clutch kit to fit the hole, then you will need the other one. other than this, it's a go and you will not regret it. :2thumbs:
