I can get a complete unused set up without the fuel line for $500.00. Being that cheap, you can spend the rest on the engine. The carbs are worth more than that.

Just curious to know the answer to this because the six pack threads seem to show that a well set up system on a 440 does very well and can be manipulated for gas mileage and performance.  With a smaller engine will it really overcarburet it that much?   There is also a difference in the way the CFM ratings are calculated for 2 bbls, but I don't know whether that is still too much.  Assume it might be, but given some other discussions I see arguments for high CFM carbs on 383s.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

I'm curious as well.  I wonder if it'd be better to use 3 350cfm carbs instead of 1 350 and 2 500cfm carbs.  Of course, you'd have to make the proper changes to the carbs to where they'd perform the same as the 500 cfm carbs. :popcrn:

worked fine for me, 10 mpg, 3.91 rear, auto, everyday car for a year, make sure you get the kickdown linkage set right, i hand ported my 66 iron heads (smoothing mainly and port matching) plus a bigger cam than stock,

I ran a 6-pack on a 383 in a '69 Road Runner with 3.55 gears and got 7 mpg. After two weeks of tuning it was up to 16 mpg. Put the engine in a Challenger with 3.91 gears and got 17 mpg on the hiway and the wife would get 19 mpg. The 1350 cfm converts to about a 950 cfm 4-bbl, but you are generally running on the center 350 cfm carburetor. Works out great for fuel economy.

Where did you connect the power brake booster vacuum line? Center carb? Manifold?

Thanks for the picture.

Thanks, this is great information. I decided to buy the set up. He found the fuel line pieces. The guys 383 is getting pulled and replaced by a crate engine.

What about the Kickdown linkage, is it the same as the four barrels.

the stock 66 linkage wouldn't work, a friend of mine grab a later 440 vertical rod (runs up the back of the block)  and we got more extension out of it

Just picked up the six pack and everything but the kickdown linkage. Everything was still in their boxes. Thanks for all of the information, helped out a lot.

Now I need to find the linkage for the transmission.

QuoteMaxwellwedge:I would say everything from the bellcrank down to the trans is the same. The piece from the bellcrank to the carb is where the difference is. I could not find the parts in a 69 book but the 70 book shows something.

These might help you out.  I didn't read completely through the top one.

Hard to beat the coolness factor and eye appeal of a six-pack setup.  Though, I believe a well set up four-barrel would run better.  I tried going to a six-pack on my 440 and was disappointed, went back to a Holley 3310.  Better mileage too.
