I work for a site contractor that's been in business for almost 100 years & used to have a chain driven, Mack dump truck. When I started here in 1996 it was a smaller company, but over the 17 years that I've been here it's grown quite a bit. So now that it's bigger, we ran out of indoor space & also needed a place to store some of the specialty equipment that you don't want left out in the elements all year when they are not being used. Things like message boards, flashing arrow boards, small compactors, etc.

Today the company that we hired to put up the new storage building, Conestoga Buildings from PA, just boomed the 60 foot trusses into place. I took a couple of pics & hope to get more tomorrow if it doesn't snow. The overall size is 60' x 120', but I forget the height.

Good to see you're expanding. I was wondering why you guys went with wood framing vs a pre-engineered metal building?

Scissor trusses even, thats pretty cool, i have those in my shop also.

Nice sized shop. Almost double what I have and if I had twice what I have now I'd probably fill that one up too.

Last year was decent & better than the year before but still not as busy as just a few years ago. When I started here it was just me doing all the take off & chasing sub contractors & suppliers while the boss did the pricing of the projects. His son & nephew who are just a few years younger than me ran the projects in the field & helped bid the projects when they came back to the office. Now it's the boss, his son, another guy, who is a civil engineer, that price & manage all the work while I still do the take off from the plans. The nephew & three others run all the projects in the field.

We were talking about the pole building today & I was told that this one is in the $80,000 range. I don't know what the cost is for a metal version, but the boss's son said it was substantially more than this one. This one will have metal roofing & walls but it won't be heated since it's just for equipment storage. We have an attached shop behind the office & that was added onto about 10 years ago for equipment storage. It's too cramped & they need the storage area for the shop now. It rained today so I didn't take pics but all the trusses are up. Most of the building is scissor trusses but the last 30 or 40 feet are standard ones & that end will be open.

I'll get more pics when it isn't raining & want to show you guys the posts they used, They are laminated & only the bottom section in the ground is pressure treated which I have never seen before & thought it was a good idea.

I'd love to have a building like this for myself & maybe section it off & rent out part of it.

That happened already, they added on to the shop & the office, out grew it in less than 10 years & then added on again to double the office. Now they need this building & will probably fill it in no time & expand again.
