...would it take to make you happy?
Seems like it's never enough for some people. I work with a few tightwads and they cringe over every penny, you should see them loose a dime in vending machine-they go ballistic!
It's nice to have money saved for "rainy day" but how much do YOU need to make you happy?
For me I'd like to have my house paid off and maybe run my own small body shop and I'll be happy.
Some people say money doesn't make you happy but you should see cars they drive, homes they live in and you figure out real quick that they're hypocrites.

i figure i will TRY to live for another 30 years, based on making what we make now to maintain the standard of living (bills and such) plus inflation, future medical bills and minus taxes would take approx.  3.8 mil as of today, small bills only please, i'll get the suitcases...................

I'd need enough in the bank to be able to live off the interest without having to work ever again. Of course with interest rates as low as they are, it would have to be a shitload of money.

I forget how to calculate the interest on a shitload.

That is one way to look at it.  A measure of what we need to live when we retire is what it takes now.

Another friend of mine has the same math as you.  My math came out at about $2M to maintain what I do now.  An old style pension would do, but they no longer exist.  So that is how I think about money.  I do not want to be in a situation where my kids have to bail me out in old age.

Right now, I am no longer near where I need to be, but I will try.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

...would it take to make you happy? Enough to where I didn't have to worry any longer.
Seems like it's never enough for some people. I work with a few tightwads and they cringe over every penny, you should see them loose a dime in vending machine-they go ballistic! Really has nothing to do with the amount they lost, it has to do with them usually being in control and something else has taken that control away and there ain't a damn thing they can do about it.
It's nice to have money saved for "rainy day" but how much do YOU need to make you happy?
For me I'd like to have my house paid off and maybe run my own small body shop and I'll be happy. Until you've made your hobby a business and have to deal with lowballin' POS people all day, everyday, you will NEVER own your own business again. It ain't worth it anymore.
Some people say money doesn't make you happy but you should see cars they drive, homes they live in and you figure out real quick that they're hypocrites. Tis true. Having money is the keyin this country to having POWER. POWER is what drives rich people to hold onto every little penny. They don't want to lose all that "Ass kissing" they have become accustomed to over the years. POWER is more addicting than Crack Cocaine. Don't believe me? Just do a little experiment next time you see someone with money try and conduct business at a retailer. Doesn't matter which, or what they are buying, just watch how they have come to expect a certain amount of ass kissing. Kinda like what happened to Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman"....I FIRMLY believe this is why these types of Movies and Reallity shows like BJ auctions are so popular. It allows "Little people" to try and fanticise about what it would be like to have that amount of power and control over the masses.

I'm not rich but I have no debt, everything's paid off.  Work is tough, school is even tougher, spare time is spent studying yet I have a wonderful wife and we both have good health.  I don't think there's more to ask for so I'm happy.
