Last 2 cars I redid, I used eastwood rust encapsulator, and then chassis black on top of that. It holds up ok but doesnt look great after several years.

This last car i tried epoxy primer(local auto paint supply), and Eastwood's extreme chassis black. Painted back inner wheel wells and front suspension parts. Followed all drying times.

Paint peels off like cellophane. :brickwall:

I've done both.  Powder coating is the only product I would bother with now for suspension and K-member.  The paint just doesn't hold up as well.

If powder coating isn't in your budget, I have used tractor/implement paint and It has held up real good, I didn't prime just sandblasted then painted the parts. I used the spray can paint on suspension. I have also used it  out of quart cans through a spray gun (with hardener) on engines and stuff like that.

Paint has always worked well for me.
I've used the Chassis Black before, works good on suspension parts but doesn't really hold up well to underhood heat over time.
If you're using unlike products over the epoxy primer, it might be best to scuff the primer first.

SEM make a great two part paint called Hot Rod Black.  It is a semi gloss black that comes in a quart kit with hardner and reducer included.  I have been using that and epoxy/high build primer base for suspension, K frame etc for years.  The gloss is correct and it is hard as nails.  Prep as normal and give the high build a scuff with a red Scotch Brite and it will stick forever.
