I just do not understand how these guys keep posting the same junk under different names time and time again..... I really hope that word has got around enough by now that somebody does not spend any of their hard earned money there in hopes of getting a decent car...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Dodge-Charger-GENERAL-LEE-/151000486699?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item232854932b

Ghoste

It won't stop, the're like a virus and even if something ever did happen to put them out of business a new gang of thieves would pop up in their place.  All we can do is keep spreading the word.

As long as people believe in things that are too good to be true , there will be people taking advantage of them . Unfortunately.

That is till the bumper falls off due to rust or lack of metal to hold it in place!   :smilielol:

There are enough threads here in these idiots. Shiesters will NEVER die. They will however prosper. Had a couple come in the shop yesterday with a 2004 Honda SUV. Never even asked for a Car fax, Records of main; Nothing....Just bought it on trust alone. Gets to driving it and finds out the Torque converter lock up clutch is going in and out. 141K miles.

People are stupid. Some of the best lessons are learned the hard way.

Granted, Im sure that most of us on here know what to look for if we buy a used car, but personally, I would NEVER trust carfax.  That is only good if someone reported a claim for damage.  There are ways around carfax like paying for the repair out of your own pocket or doing the repair yourself if you are good enough at painting.  I checked out a car for my sister in law and they showed me the carfax and claimed there was no damage, yet I could tell where the paint on the pass. fender and door was not perfectly blended in.  They denied it was repaired until I showed them there was no vin sticker on the fender like the driver side had.

the carfax I trust with newer cars, but I dont trust it 100% until driven or so.  I have roughly 3 cars in life sight unseen and only ordered the carfax and all 3 proven perfect for me ran the cars mileage wise like crazy and ran great.

WM23N1

I don't trust carfax either. A few years ago I purchased unlimited carfax when I was looking at buying a used car. Just for fun I ran the VIN off a 2000 dodge dakota that I had turned over in a ditch and had bodywork done on it at the local dodge dealer where I bought it new. Guess what? Carfax didn't have any records of repairs or damage for it. It was claimed on my insurance.

What name are they going by now? I see on the Ebay listing they show Terre Haute as their locarion. I live near there and would love to pay them a visit.....

GOTWING

May be unrealated, but i purchased a 92 Mustang GT in 1999 for a girlfriend of mine from a new Ford dealership, paid cash and got a clean De. title from the dealer. I ran a carfax and it had been a total loss early in it's life ( 1995 ), i could not beleive it did not have a branded / salvage tilte. She drove it for about a year and then got a 99 GT.

Cooter

Possibly went to a state to have the car's title "washed" by titling it in another state, then re-titling it back in the home state. You would not believe how many times this is actually done on used car lots to get around Car Fax.

Carfax is a worthless site. Hell my blazer was hit twice, but never showed up in Carfax.

Ok, lemme see if I have this correct here... Take them to court, they present lawyers with a Bill-of-sale that clearly states "As is No Warranty" and someone buys it. End of court case. But, just on the half chance it actually gets all the way to a "Settlement". Most likely, they will be hiding behind an LLC or something and all you'll get by "sueing" Hilpag inc. would be some pens, paper, and a couple copiers. Ok, best case scenario....
You get all the way to a settlement, but judge gives Hilpag up to 30 years to make the payments to you. Ok, they reform, bankrupt the present named company, and back in business in three weeks. haven't solved anything, cost more than one would expect to win in settlement.

Worst case scenario.....Someone actually pulls a "john Wayne" and shows up with a gun and begins firing into offices at Hilpag, (basically causing gun activists to get their panties in a twist all over again), and they go to jail for attempted murder...
Sweet....BUYER BEWARE out here.

Wasn't that same auction run before with the same pictures of the same car & broads?
Is it the same car now, or just a recycled auction re-using pictures?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with carfax, you only get info that was reported somehwere correct?  So if a car is in a fender bender and joe shmo just fixes it himself and doesn't report it to insurance or anyone, then carfax won't know anyway.

At least that's how I understood it to work back when carfax first started up.

I think the concept of carfax is good, but like anything that requires human input and honesty, they'll never have all the data.

Unfortunately the only way to have 100% accountability would be some sort of "big brother" tracking system, ick!   :icon_smile_cool:

bull

Last I heard carfax didn't work on our types of VINs. Unless they changed something. :shruggy:

We still thank everyone on here for steering us clear of HLPAG as we were "this" close to being ripped off. Now we've got this gem and are stoked (although we had to fork out a bit more, you get what you pay for... ain't that the truth!).

seems people are knowing about HLGAG since no one is bidding?  Remember back in the day folks bidded like crazy over their stuff.
