Another visit today!
the painter found rust starting to bubble (very small) on the roof, so he stripped all the paint and will start fresh!  so far he is happy with the trunk lid and hood.  the primer was good quality from previous owner, but they must have started prep and parked it outside or something. :brickwall:   getting better now though!!!  and no more bad stripe!! :popcrn: :popcrn:

Paint is not done yet, but full primer and baking a little in the sun for the past few days!   :coolgleamA:
I did receive our new Sail panel emblems and the R/T for the headlight door though!!  the charger script for the grill is on back order. but will be great to finish the grill and have it ready for install!  we also received a new window fuzzy kit, so I'll drop that off with the painter so he can throw those in when he puts the glass back!  was a good feeling ripping out the old rusty pieces knowing new ones were on their way!!  :yesnod:

Lookin' good!   :2thumbs:

Are you finishing the grill out or is the paint shop?

Sort of surprised the shop doesn't want to take the whole car down to metal.

I'm finishing the grill!  :2thumbs:    Last year I fixed the cracks and painted the outer trim and fins but need to add the pin striping.  Now that the weather is improving I can spend more time in garage painting!
The body shop stripped the roof to metal as well as any other spots that looked to be hiding rust, but for the most part the old primer was high quality and they found little surprises!!  A couple of areas I thought were bondo (base of windshield corners) turned out to be new metal with heavy primer/ body fill....  :shruggy:    Both quarters had been replaced, rocker panels, trunk tray area, trunk floor, and one door!  The previous owner spent some money trying to get things started correctly, but had a poor body man as well as put the car outside for years after doing the work. :brickwall:    This was suppose to be a simple re-spray, but we're getting a lot more out of it as well as learning about the body!  Each time I stop or get a picture sent from body guy, I believe the car smiling!!!!
The car came with an 8-1/4 rear, but I was able to find a nice 8-3/4 which is posi and 3.23 gears!  Spent some time last night taking that apart so I can add new brake lines, switch pumpkin, add ebrake cable, and start painting it!

Nice find on the sure grip 8 3/4, while its apart you should swap it to atleast 3:55 gears  :Twocents:

It's not a Chevy, it's a Mopar.  Positive traction for Mopar is called Sure Grip!   ;)

What does a paint job like that set a guy back??

I keep saying I could never afford paint, but I keep dumping thousands into the car to make it faster, haha
JUNKTRAVELER: all I've seen in this thread is a bunch of bullies and 3 guys that actually give a crap.

Almost anyone can afford the paint, it's the labor that breaks the bank :eek2:

Exactly!  And how much body work before prep..... The prices are all over the place but you need to have someone come and look at your car to get the right feel!   We lucked out with this guy as his shop is close to our house and he does great work, but doesn't kill ya on price!  Of course we haven't gotten the final bill yet either!!  :smilielol:

You can range from $4k-14k......

Hopefully end of next week I'll have shots of the blackout on the hood, rear, and entire car buffer!!!  Coming home soon!!    :2thumbs:

Went down to check on the progress of a few added details and they said it was ready to go home!!!!!   :icon_smile_big:   it's dirty and needs a bath from the normal shop powder on the inside and engine bay, but it just feels great to have him home!!!!  they knew the same tow truck guy I did and within an hour he was at the shop and loading up our baby!  he took a bunch of pictures and is posting them on his website as he loves classics and never towed one of ours!!!  :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:

and now a few pictures!!!!  :popcrn: :popcrn:
