The recent threads about dog treats from China and Jeeps from China got my thinking.

So here's a whole new topic to get us fired up about made in China. The idea is to post your own pic of a Chinese surprise. It's easy to find an internet pic from someone else, but how about posting your own Chinese surprise. Specifically, something that you expect to be American and then... surprise!


Mine: one of my favorite leather belts gave out. It's a Stetson belt. Surprise! China.

The idea is not to just bash Chinese stuff, or tell stories, let's post real pictures of real stuff. And that means real stuff with an American name and a China surprise, like Stetson being made in China.

Here's another example (taken from the internet). Whole Foods, organic and American, right? Wrong, green olives made in China, sold by Whole Foods.

I will derail my own topic for a moment. Stroker, you gotta do some research. China is not lacking. They have lots more than bok choy and cardboard.

The country has vast wealth in land, water, minerals (ranking first in dozens of key categories), coal, gas, animals, farmland, aquaculture, and most especially work ethic and national ambition.

China is not lacking resources.

The Cooper Cobra tires I bought a while back were US made. I hope that's still the case.

Channellock pliars are still made in the US so I always look at Channellock first when buying pliars. Unfortunately some of their other tools are made in Taiwan and China so you have to look before you buy. I was surprised to learn that some of the Lowe's Kobalt tools are US made too but saddened to learn that much (if not all) of the Vice-Grip tool production has left the US. I believe some of the public outcry for US-made products is working.

Yep, Cooper is just up the road from me. I was bummed that Vice Grip moved production overseas. I am very surprised that anything Kobalt is made in the US. I'll have to take a peek.

Back in 1985 I toured the Vice-Grip factory in Nebraska (I believe) during a senior trip. It's been within the last 10 years that they stopped US production, some time after American Tool bought Irwin. Ironic isn't it? American Tool buys an American-produced product and then moves production to China.

My first source: the CIA. I'll take their word for it that China's number one resource is coal, and number four is gas. That China is a world leader in oil production, and water resources are significant on a world scale.

Coal: according to Wikipedia, with referenced notations, China is third in world in coal reserves and number one in the world in coal production. According to the World Coal Association, http://www.worldcoal.org/resources/coal-statistics/ China is #1 in coal production, more than triple that of #2 USA and more than 8 times that of Australia.

Don't listen to secondary sources, and don't fool yourselves. Please do the research on this, it's just a fact that China has a wealth of resources.

The problem with China's resourses, is they are concentrated in small parts of the country.  All that water is in the south eastern part or near the ocean.  The rest of the country is almost dry.  Same holds true for the rest of the resources.  They are too sparse. Complete opposite of the US.  Except for the US southwest, you can find almost any resource in any part of the country.  I exclude the SW because it's a manmade oasis and on the brink.

Instead of looking at how much is sent here from China, how bout we look at the real problem, like people here see a set of wheels that actually ARE made in the USA for something like $450.00/wheel. They see the same wheel advertised for Something like $100.00/wheel and guess which one gets sold first....Not a damn one of us (Me included) turns down the "cheaper" set for the more expensive set. No matter what it is. Afterall, China wouldn't be sending this sh*t over here if there WASN'T A MARKET FOR IT. There's a long running battle going on in Spokane Wa. About letting more coal trains run through the city 24/7.  The coal is being shipped from our huge mines in Wyoming to CHINA!

   We had some candy canes & I checked and sure enough made in China. I tossed them awhile back but much of the dollar store candy is made in China. The last thing I am going to do is EAT something made their.
   Gotta agree with Cooter that if two comparable things are up for me to buy I will get the cheaper one. I have not seen a HUGE price difference like he uses but 25% seems common on Jeep rims.

I just bought an 02 Honda Accord,I know  ,but it was an older friends wifes car they bought new,super clean,runs awesome,great price and good MPG's.Bought a OEM style spoiler w/led brake light  from ebay for it for $79,came in yesterday,took it out of the box and was surprised how nice for the price it was,hardware,instructions,template.........and when I looked on one of the bottom pedastools......MADE IN USA !!!!!! I got a laugh out of that one,thought for sure would have ben made in China.

china just got done building the 3 rivers dam about 5-6 years ago, they now have the hydro-electric from that, they are the biggest consumer of coal 'cause they don't have an EPA to regulate it, oh yeah, and the smog from china coal burning flows this way, not to russia/europe

but of course big, bad USA is a monster and must pay for other nations to clean up their countries...........

2 business associates traveling in China in the last 4 months have both returned home with sever lung infections caused from the smog. One told me you could see the particles floating in the air!! One missed a month and the other only 3 weeks as the doctor put him on steroids! Not sure I want to go there!

I've got a 2ft x 4ft cloth American flag tacked to the ceiling in my garage above my Charger, I had to look long and hard to find one and yes it cost more than the m.i.c. versions. The Villains ( social club / car club ) guys and girls I knock around with needed to get some T shirts made, with the proviso that the shirts were made in the USA, as are our cars, only one supplier out of an exhaustive search here was able to supply what we wanted.
Have a look where your T's are made.
Troy's D.C ones are made in Honduras, which for me is close enough  


Where possible I try to support local industry and avoid the Chinese import products.

My sister has a uniform supply and clothing alteration business, guess where she is off to next week to get product sourced from, I am a bit disapointed but its the only way she could get volume and reasonable cost as the local suppliers just could not compete, custom labels made ( quality I might add too ) for 8c as opposed to $1.89
