Found these on ebay. Have never seen them before. Thoughts  :2thumbs:

Dans 68

Not "factory". The 68's did not come with taillight covers.

I'd have to see them installed but picturing it in my mind I think they would look kind of out of place with them only covering the lamp assemblies anyway.

Thought these could be aftermarket, I asked the seller for a part#so I will wait on that. A prototype, rare item? Ford did that allot. Looks like they would go on a coronet?. :shruggy:

Coronets didn't have anything like that.  I think its just a custom piece that someone made.

70 coronets had those. Not saying these are for a 70 coronet, but that's what they look like.

Really?  I stand corrected then.  I'll be watching for them now.  (but I still no for them being a factory thing on a 68 Charger)

Those are not stock since 68 did not use tail light covers based on my experiences.  I have a 69 tail light cover that I use on my 68 but I had to make mounting brackets so it would work.  May not be stock but it looks good and keeps the wires from being accidentally damaged.

Its pretty easy to understand ,that most havent seen them. 90 % of the time there missing anyway. if you look at the tailights from inside the trunk you will see the mounting provisions. I wouldnt be surprised if some earlier car dont have them . Could be a change needed to avoid cargo knocking the lights from their sockets.

There may be some creedence to what you say Daytona but I owned four Chargers since 1970, two 69's and two 68's and I never seen any tail light covers except for a 69 Charger SE car.  But if they are like the useless B-Body bumper jacks they were probably trashed a long time ago!!!! Never have I seen a factory installed one on a 68...............  Oh well!!!!

Yeah, the Charger one I'm comfortable on.  I've looked at a LOT of Chargers but not nearly that many 70 Coronets.  They had them in the 66-67 Chargers as well but for whatever reason not in 68.  I could be wrong because I frequently am and I am far from perfect but you would have to convince me.

mikeydf14

Not perfect here myself. Mine are just observations for the past 40 years. Since 68 was the first year of the 2nd Gen Chargers that Dodge felt the covers were unnecessary?  Who knows.....................

We know they never came on a 68 Charger. But I can also tell you my 70 Superbee had them stock, just sayin   :popcrn:   :icon_smile_big:

They took out the standard tach and carpeted trunk for 68 too so maybe it was just "decontenting" from the fastbacks? ;)

PlainfieldCharger

Person selling these are Ebay says they are for a 68 charger. Still no Part#. I think I will take a pass on these. ;)
