I am not sure who would be more retarded - the person buying for $10k, or selling...  :scratchchin:

Red line "HOT WHEELS" do bring strong money, when i had the chance to buy back my high school charger 2 years ago that's what i did, i put some, not all of my child hood redlines on e-bay, i got enough for one tripple fold out case to buy my car back! :2thumbs:

The brown Charger will likely always pull a big number because of the rarity.   Guessing that the number of potential owners of five figure Hot Wheels is fairly small (and they all know each other).

As the boomers and collectors of this stuff get older, it will be interesting to watch and see how sustainable the pricing is.   I am not just referring to Hot Wheels.   I am of the opinion that at some point in the not in the too distant future, most of us are all headed back down the other side of the bell curve.   The Hot Wheels market is quite large.    But if I had a large collection of rare redlines,  my guess is that in the next decade, it would be a good idea to offload them while they still had good value.

It's just a model toy. Who would pay 10k For that?

There were 11 different bidders that went for it.

It all just depends on what you are truly passionate about.

I'm guessing everyone who spend tens of thousands on Beanie Babies a decade or so ago probably wishes they'd had this kind of prescience :)

Redline hotwheels are totally cool & collectable , plenty of cars being worth into the thousands..nothing new.

There was another one of those VW beach wagons that was up for sale on eBay not too long ago.  It wasn't a pink one.  I think it got to 11 or 12k.

I'm mostly puzzled as to why Hot Wheels didn't make a lot more Chargers.

Who would buy a HEMI Charger R/T SE with rust problems, then spend 10 years working on it, Spending HUGE money on it instead of driving it?

Selling my Hot Wheels collection I had as a kid helped me restore my '70. Had lots of redlines, cases of them, even ones still in the blister pack with the buttons.
Do I wish I had them back? No, not really.
