Posting new threads...

Troy

There seems to be an ongoing problem with people starting all new threads on any topic imaginable in General Discussion because they think that more people will see their incredibly important post and, apparently, that the rules should only apply to other members. The most common themes within these misplaced threads are technical questions which people incorrectly assume will go unread/unanswered in the Tech sections. The best tech people hang out in the Tech sections where they are more likely to spot a question and provide an answer but they also tend to get tired of answering the same things repeatedly. I spent a lot of time trying to organize the site so that relevant information is in the most logical place for ALL members of the site. This aids in searching, helps cut down on repeat questions, and reduces clutter and unnecessary scrolling in the busiest section of the site. So, not only is it inconsiderate to other members when threads are started in the wrong place but it's disrespectful, rude, and time-consuming for the mods to have to "clean up". As usual, there are certain people who are more guilty of this than others. Unfortunately, we/I don't have time to send courteous little notes each time we have to move a thread so I've come up with other measures to get the attention of the worst offenders. In the future, I willl suspend the thread starting privileges - in GD or site wide - of anyone who just can't quite figure it out to give them some extra time to study the layout of the forums. This may sound harsh to some but I'm also sick of getting rude responses back when I ask someone politely to stop abusing the site. I will treat them with an equal amount of respect... :P

Thanks,

Shouldn't this be in the site suggestions section?    :icon_smile_big:

Troy

It isn't a suggestion and I'm not asking for help. So, no. ;)

That must be one of the rude responses you are talking about.

It was funny though.

thanks T, for making DC.com a better place. I was getting bored to read those same threads over and over again.  :-[

Great job you've done so farTroy.       Chris and Neil are invaluable I'm sure.  :2thumbs: Did that come out right?  ;)
I think people forget all the hard work & your personal time you've put in to keep this board up and running for us to tell stories on.  Maybe you should start slowing things down, unplugging the electricity every once in a while, lose threads, heck there's all kinds of things you could do to get people to remember what it used to be like.  :icon_smile_big:

I was gonna post this over in the right section where it belongs, but figured I, oops, I meant (it), would get more attention here and then one of the mods could move it to where it belongs.  :P

I agree 100%.   After numerous PM's to people politely asking them to please follow the site rules, it just got out of hand.

Lately I haven't been able to enjoy the site much because of having to move topics all over the place,  I cant really read what I want to read :(

Please all, adhere to the rules.....they are simple enough

I for one appreciate all of the mods Troy, Chris and Neil do for this site, I can only imagine how much time it takes to try
and keep up with every thread   :o :o  I have always tried to do searches on my own. Now I have been doing a
lot of searches to help others as to not add more and more pictures on to the site that I and others have allready posted.
Anyway thanks again and please hang in there guys, this site is only sites I participate in

Do what you gotta do, Troy. Some people need a tap on the shoulder to get the message and others need a 2 x 4 to the noggin. :icon_smile_blackeye:

Troy, you may want to cruise over to jeepforum.com and read their rules. They have some pretty good ones that they might not mind if you borrowed for your own site. I especially like their stance on "padding."

You're assuming that in between chasing all these jokers around that I actually have time to read another site? :D

There's some great rules at cornercarvers.com but I think they are a bit over the top for this place. I'll revise them soon so thanks for the link.

Wait you mean this site has rules? Only kidding.

Hopefully people will get he hint, and pay attention to where they are posting things. Its understandable to have a few here and there that wind up in the wrong place but lately it seems to be about 3-5 a day or more.

I really apologise if any of those were me ( I think one was) I was through ignorance not lack of care.
Hey Troy you are the MAN - you know I love the site even tho I'm not around much -Time to lay down the ground rules

when everyone figures out how to control people, please let me know, i could use it on my wife.  until then guys, we could be in a third world country not having anything and our every move controlled by an overweight iraqi.  no one is breaking the law here, if people are posting things in other subjects to get noticed, it's probably for a reason.  either they don't pay attention......or they don't recieve the info they are looking for.  troy, if i were you i'd go postal over this.  no hard feelings, just venting.

My secret is to let my wife think she controls me but i still get away with doing what i want anyways!  Its been a tough 5+ years of marriage so far with that battle but i think i'm comming over the hill now.... :icon_smile_big:

IE:  i've got two Charger in the garage, one unrestored, one almost done and i told her i found two more in the paper and i was gonna go look at em.  She says, "do whatever you want, i dont care anymore"  :yesnod:
