My 73 Hardtop $1000 in 2000 . Triple TX9 car with a Cobra Grain Canopy roof . Bought with a 360 was just a 318 car . 3 out of 5 condition .
Bought my son a 73 Rallye 340 in 2004 from SC for $800 . WL coupe car . Weird car , barely any options or chrome . 2 out of 5 .

That's why I was saying this should have had a option for $2,000 and under.   There are lots of guys that paid under 2k for the cars but can't vote      Oh well.

I guess the OP did not realize 3rd gens are not in the same price range as 2nd gens. 

People want more than 2 grand for a 2nd gen that needs new everything from the door back. 

Still good stories. The poll won't be very acurate though.

71 Charger B5 blue with blue interior with black vinyl top. The car was listed for sale in the local "auto classified" paper the week of Christmas a few years ago. Originally a 318 column shift auto, 4 wheel drum brake, A/C car.  Purchase price was less than I paid for the new dash pad!   So being a plain jane car it was the ideal car for some upgrades without ruining the value of the car!  I started out the build as a "junkyard day 2 build".   Started hunting parts for a few years and found a 73 power bulge hood, 72 440, 72 8 3/4 rear end, rallye gauge set-up, and console shift set-up.  Then decided to make a few upgrades to modernize it a bit, like 4 wheel disc brakes, modern headers, and modern A/C system and modern rubber.   It is getting really close to being back on the road.  So the next step is to drive it and enjoy it while I continue hunting for an R/T, Superbee or Ramcharger style hood.

So far I've counted around 18 cars under the $2,000 mark just from guys that posted.  Who knows how many others that couldn't vote and didn't post.   It would be nice to see a real poll but from what I can see so far I would say more than 50% will fall into the under $2,000 mark.  Then again, seems like these cars are going up in value and will be less deals out there under 2k these days.        Brigond, fix this poll brother.

I guess I still own mine. It was stolen around 1980 and I dont know where it is. 1972 SE B5 white top blue int. 400 auto. It had a rod through the block but the body was straight with good interior. $300.00

Mostly for fun and great stories .  At first, I was thinking for current value . In hindsight  I should have limited the participants  to those who have purchased within the last 2 or 3 years.  So it turns out that the poll is closer to giving the values over the years . Also turns out that the posted stories are more informative  then the poll itself . By popular demand  ,  I did try to go back and adjust the poll so that folks who paid less than $2000 could participate but it would not let me change that part. (sorry bargain hunters) Darn! I guess I'm gonna have to  take "scientist " of my list of occupations .    So what did you pay  for the green machine?

The Other part that you should have asked is where did you buy the car......Geography has a huge part in the purchase price of a car......
Here in Ontario Mopar's are expensive...and 3rd gens are rare.....so prices are high

I bought my 71 R/T off of a poorly written Ebay add in Ingersoll Ontario, add simply said "dodge charger"........no description and poor pictures...I emailed him for details
I paid $6000 for a Project car.........Solid body, numbers matching 440 drivetrain ...BUT completely torn apart and looking rough ...LOL, All others that looked at it walked away without an offer being made.....I was looking for a 68/69 but after I went home and searched the 71 R/T I seen it was rare
He wanted $7500 and I could not talk him lower than $6000..I wanted to pay $4000......I wanted the car so whats $2000 for something you want ..yes I think I paid too much but at the time cars were going for stupid prices and Barret Jackson sold one for around $65,000 so I got caught up in it

October 1995. Paid $1,200.00 for my 71 SE, 383 auto, slapstik. Drove it home. Did need about 2k in bodywork and assorted parts.

Up in Canada prices are higher. Looking back I probably paid too much initially, but the car was very solid and I was able to finish it off to my taste. I know I have more into it then I will ever get for it, but that is not the point. It is a car I plan to enjoy for many years to come.

I had a chance to buy a 73  back about 1998 for 800$.   It was a very nice 318 car with AC. Everything worked. Would have been a good driver but didnt think I needed another charger at the time. I also had a chance to buy a 71 RT 440 4 speed trakpak car for 2000$  that was running and driving but needed some work and turned it down. That was 1996 or 97.  I kick myself now for not buying either one. Especially the RT.

Actually that was just after I unloaded it to put it in my garage. It has been over a year since it has sat in its parking stall. It leaves again Wednesday to the body shop to Finish a few small detail things and some paint touch ups. So it will be back in the trailer for another ride. Next time I see it though, it will have the Superbee fender emblem, wheel opening moldings and front chin spoiler. Cannot wait for this snow to be gone. 18 miles last year was not enough.

I bought my car in 2004 in Washington for 1300.00, brought the car to North Dakota. Was a 1973 Charger (se) #'s matching 400 bb car but motor was shot so bought a 400 out of a 73 Grand Fury with 8,000 miles on rebuilt. Car has surface rust under the vinal top and one little dent on right fender. Car is light blue body white top with dark blue int. but wont be that when done

Paid 2,200 for this in 2010.  72 se 318.  Guy was asking 3k.  Most the pans and panels are in great shape.  Driprails are a problem though.
