just a quick question...does the trunk floor get spot welded to the shock cross member or does it sit slightly above it? Old floor was pretty rusty and I can't tell if it was.....getting ready to weld in a new AMD floor....

Sits slightly above it, I just took my trunk out.   :2thumbs:

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Check the shock crossmember itself though.   Look for cracks and oval-shaped bolt holes.

Those shock crossmembers cannot take the weight of the vehicle  They weren't designed for it.  But plenty of Mopar owners have tested that idea with air shocks over the decades, sometimes messing up or breaking the crossmember in the process.

Rich if you need, (seeing as your trunk was pretty far gone) I am more than willing to share pictures and measurements for the brackets and etc that are mounted to the trunk floor, I took a lot of pictures and measured everything.

Thanks for the offer. I'm pretty well set as far as brackets are (spare tire, jack, gas tank), but if you have it, how much did the rear edge of your trunk floor stick out past the rear cross member? My cross memeber was also rotted out, so I replaced that too. I need the measurement from the vertical edge of the cross member to the vertical edge of the trunk floor (the part thats get spot welded to the rear valance). Right now I have mine set at 3/4" overhang, just would be nice to get a second opinion...

...and feel free to post as many pictures as you like. If they don't help me, maybe they can help someone else...

Let me check my pictures and see if I have anything that shows that, if not, I can try to remember to take a picture next time I get to work on my car.  I will also try to get all those pictures posted up here for everyone.

I just dug thru my pile of scrap parts and found a section of rear crossmember I had cut out...looks like the trunk pan overhangs 1-1/8"...here's my simple drawing to kinda show what I'm talking about...

tsmithae

I measured from where the crossmember ends to where the trunk floor turns up and it was 7/16".

thanks for the measurement   :2thumbs:  ...but i replaced the crossmemeber, and the top lip on the AMD piece is narrower than the factory piece. Thats why I was measuring from the vertical piece. But it looks like from your picture the lip of your crossmember is about  :scope: 13/16"...so that plus the 7/16" overhang is about 1-1/4"?? So it looks like I'm close at 1-1/8"...

Sounds like you should be good, nice detective work!  :2thumbs:

another question...and a rant...  :RantExplode:

first, the hole in the trunk floor for the gas filler... the hole in the AMD floor is not the same as the factory (original was a '70, building it into a 69 500 clone), do I need to cut out the white area marked on the new floor to match the old, or does it not matter?

...and second....how hard is it to make something right? The part of the AMD floor that goes over the shock cross memeber is very different than the original. I assume the holes are supposed to be for access to the upper shock bolts (although I can't remember ever actually using them  :scratchchin:), would be nice to replace a part and not have it look like its been replaced...  :brickwall:

Anybody else notice these things??

Charger-Bodie

From what im told ,the trunk floor has a combo of these varances to cover all three years. for an example my 68 is supposed to have the fuel filler tube hole like your new is.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............
