Dudes!
I finally scraped up the couple hundred bucks to splurge on the ignition conversion.... then I went online and found that the kit is $225 at mopar performance.com and $189 at moparts connection  ??? So can anyone tell me if the kit from moparts is fine and not a factory second/ rebuild kinda thing? Would it be a safe purchase?
Im projecting that the kit is just an exchange of the distributor, mounting the box on the firewall, new ballast resistor and connect some wires. All to help out my 1974 440. This modification and a future change back to factory HP exhaust manifolds should keep me and my 68 happy for awhile. So has anyone bought that kit from moparts connection? Thanks! Andy  :icon_smile_cool:

Yeah the Mopar prices are getting out of control. I would think its very likely they are the same units.
You will be happy you did it, yes two wires come out of the new dist, so all you need to do is follow the
new wire harness instructions. I do not run the standard orange box that the mopar kit comes with. I have
seen to many of them go bad, I have been running the mopar Chrome box for 26yrs with no problems.

the New Mopar kits offer a better dist build by Mallory , it has the adjustable mech advance plate so I doubt the 2 systems are the same

Would a Pertronix conversion to a factory distributor be a cheaper way to go?

No Orange Box to contend with.

$75-$100 for their kit.

The only drawback to the Pertronix kit would be if the bushings were worn in your old distributor.  Also, you would have to physically alter the advance mechanism to get a more aggressive curve.

ChargerAndy

I was interested in pertronix but read somewhere that some people had problems with it? It appealed to me because essentially you can't see it and everything looks stock.  Right now my gut tells me to go with genuine Mopar but honestly I don't know enough to know the difference between one or the other. I don't know much about advance curves either, but I do know I don't have as much vacuum as I should so maybe theres a better kit for my situation...... So how do I choose? What kit should I get?  Should I get a new coil too?  Thanks for the inputs!  Andy  ???

A friend of mine has the Pertronix setup on his car and as fas I can tell, all he's gained is the elimination of the maintenance hassles of points.  But, he runs a pretty mild, very close to stock configuration anyway so take that for what it's worth.

I have run into 3 problematic Pertronics systems so far , not a great "UP" grade IMHO

I ordered the MP Electronic conversion kit from Mancini with some other parts last week, I don't feel so bad now.
