i know there are massive backorders. the government is buying up huge quantities, and with the anti gun legislation, the general public is also stock piling. rounds like 223, 308, 7.62x39, 9mm, 40, 45 are all extremely hard to get right now, since people are concerned about having their guns taken away. I don't blame them. If some of these bills get passed, semi auto rifles and pistols will be severly limited, and one way to limit it is to ban manufacture of the ammunition used by these. Which is what many are afraid of. I'm not trying to get political here, but unfortunately in order to answer the question I have to mention politics. Sorry about that fellas. I do know most of the big ammunition plants are now running 24/7 trying to produce enough to fill back orders. but for every box that is filled, it seems there are 10 more orders. I am not going to mention companies or what not, to cover myself. The best I can say is that I honestly do not believe they will get these bills passed. I truely don't. And with any luck, things will start to get back to normal in the next 3 or 4 years. but until then, it's going to be a constant battle.

Yep

Take away the ammo and then what?

Still I agree that something extreme like banning the manufacture of ALL ammo will not happen. I grabbed some 22 shorts today not that I use them much but it was in front of me. :rotz:

It is not a good time to own something that uses 223 as if anything gets limited it will be that round. :Twocents:

Yes,  but I think they will first move to a new NATO round (not available to the public) and then limit, tax, and or restrict .223.

Been reloading and casting bullets for a long time, it pays in a very short time if you shoot much at all.

Picked up 3ea 223 500 count boxes at Walmart $154 ea.  a couple weeks ago. Had about 10 boxes left after I got mine.  Still cant get the 22's LR though

:o  I have never seen 500 round boxes at our local Walmarts, even before the panic buy.  You are very lucky, I am curious if it is regional thing.

I just bought a case (500 rounds) of the Winchester Ranger T's .45 this last week online.  Did not think I would see those for a least a year.

are your walmarts limiting you to 3 boxes? they are here. farm and home is limiting to 3 boxes of each caliber, but walmart is three boxes period.

The ammunition makers have hired more help to keep up with demand.   I think we will see the gun panic come to a stop and then ammo will be overstocked.   Some good deals are coming in the near future is what I say.    Many people are like me now, not worried and no more panic.    We aren't going to loose our guns so I'm just waiting for the ammunition to plunge.     :Twocents:

I agree with Skip. If we all just cool our jets for a few more weeks we will see ammo stocks robustly increase and much cheaper pricing.  :Twocents:

Walmart is same here.  3 boxes per day.  Doesn't matter 3 boxes of 50 or 500 or mix--3 boxes
I just wanted some to go with the AR I puicked up the week before at the store.

yep, its just nice to have ammo for what you own. i purchased a taurus 9mm and couldnt find ammo. i had this gun for 2 months with no ammo. so when the gun show came up, i grabed what i could. made sure each of my guns had a few boxes. cant shoot without ammo. we have an awesome shooting range right by the house. so my toys get regular use. :yesnod:

I had plenty before the scare & I just order online & wait till it comes in stock. I have 100 rounds of double 00 12 gage coming in the next few days & 20 rounds of S&W .500 when they get in stock. Not in a rush & I will not pay out the butt to get it RIGHT now. The 12 gage was $65 & the 500 was $35 which are decent prices I think.

I've been seeing it show up more often recently. A couple weeks ago I couldn't get anything (other than military surplus or reloads) without paying approximately double the retail price. I put in a backorder at one place who still listed stuff at regular pricing but it looks like it will be a few weeks before that even ships. It's for stuff I normally don't use BUT friends do and they're willing to trade. Having said that, yesterday at lunch I ran across a place that actually had stock and they were only about 3 cents more than retail - but didn't pay tax so it worked out in my favor. Last night a little after midnight I stumbled across a place online that was apparently updating their inventory for today and snagged a whole mess of 9mm. Like enough to last me about 5 years! I figure I'll swap it with buddies who mainly shoot 9mm (I only have one).

Off topic, but you don't have to buy ammo if you a HN 5.7 pistol for sale. Because I want one.  Sell it. :2thumbs:

One nice thing about owning a bunch of old guns with orphan calibers is that hardly anybody is sold out.  :nana:

On election day I went and voted and then went straight  to walmart and bought s case os .22 ammo.  a case of.357 and 2 cases of shotgun shells. everyone at the gun counter looked at me like I was nuts. However if you remember the same thing happened in 2008.

myk

I was part of a local 'ammo scouting group but I'm walking away from the gun thing for a while.  Besides, instead of paying a $1/round for my calibers I'll just buy new wheels and tires for the Charger-that part of my life never disappoints.  I will say that four years from now I'll be much more prepared for the next panic session...
