Craigslist or other forums is the way to go.

I use Nex-Tech classifieds on things now and I recommend them.  It is a little better than craigslist in my opinion.  I gave up on ebay years ago and have not looked back since.....

Damn. So if you sold a Car for 20K, they get 9-10 percent (2k).

As of May 1, 2013 the rate goes to 10% and the maximum goes from $100 to $250 unless you have an Ebay store and pay a monthly fee.   That with the Paypal fee of 2.9% makes me wonder why any individual would juse them?? :shruggy:

Ebay still gets used because they still have the biggest group of people using it.  You don't get very far looking for rare old car parts in just the local ads.

You don't get too many bidders on unusual stuff in just the local site either.  Selling something for 90% of $100 on Ebay is still a lot better than selling it for 100% of $20 locally.

The only thing that could bring Ebay down would be ONE SINGLE competitor that's also huge and nationwide or worldwide.

Which is why Craiglist, which is 20% owned by ebay, keeps shutting down the anyone with a comprehensive search engine.

My guess is Ebay would simply buy any and all threats.  :Twocents:

Plus you got charged a percentage for shipping, plus you got charged a Paypal fee (which is owned by ebay)

this has been going on for a while now....they basically have the market cornered and they know it..

Yep.  It's freaken crazy now.   Over the years they created what they have and no they are taking advantage of it.

It's more of a hassle doing Craigslist and multiple forums, but Ebay days of selling are done for me.    :nana:

eBay upped their fees to 9% some time ago. They boasted that the initial listing fees were being decreased & a certain number of listings per month were free to list, but it was a huge price hike in disguise because all the final value fees (yes, shipping is figured in that) were increased. Paypal takes their cut, too. Sucks all around.
If I sell something on eBay, I try to keep it small/cheap because selling anything expensive on there becomes a killer in fees. Craigslist is great for general stuff, but for obscure or specific things eBay is sometimes better, fees and all. On occasion I would sometimes have something on Craigslist or on a forum that didn't sell for months, then put it up on eBay and have it sell quickly for way higher than what I was asking for it in the first place.
No complaints here about that, but even still with the price hikes I post far less things on eBay than I did in the past.

I hadn't sold anything since the early 2000's until I listed my wife's cell phone a couple of months ago.   Of course I didn't read the new terms, just listed and figured it was still 2% like it used to be.   When they charged me 25 bucks I emailed customer care, and their response - while polite - basically said 'it's not 2003 anymore, gramps'
