I ordered a couple boxes of .357 from an on-line place that showed in stock & my confirmation email had a expected ship date of 12\31\2013. :eek2:

Didn't see a post on just buying ammo & know a member here works at a ammunition manufacture if he want to chime in on the crazy going on.

If you had been ready for the Zombie Apocalypse you'd already have all the ammo you need...I do not feel sorry for you at all!  :nana:

About impossible to find anything on-line at the moment. Everything seems to be on backorder.  Most retailers when they have it on hand are limiting the amount you can buy. Still moves off of the shelves pretty fast.  Most manufacturers are running 24/7 and can't keep up with demand.

May have something to due with the fact that the Feds, not military, have bought 1.6 Billion rounds of ammo in the last 10 months and have bids going out for another 26.5 Millions rounds.
FYI the military has been consuming ammo at the rate of 5.5 Million rounds a month, so the Feds will have enough on hand to last about 30 years if consumed at the same rate.

Maybe we can ask for our tax refunds in ammo instead of $'s .

thats where i just got mine today. but the pickins are slim. 22, 25, 9 are almost impossible around here. but i can get 270, 30-30, 40, 38, 357, 45 at a few different places. but they are limiting to 3 boxes a visit.

If a person owns more than one firearm chances are they have a .22 & 12 gage & most of the people I know have a 9 MM as well.

I think it's the same for most places to be out of 9 MM & ALL 22 ammo and just the higher end revolver ammo is left. Plenty of game ammo to choose from for shotguns but the OO buckshot is gone most times.

Posted before I was going down to just a few calibers & sold off my 9 MM & got a Ruger single six convertible 22LR\22 Mag along with some $ in trade.

Now I just have 22,38\357 & 12 gage to buy for which makes larger purchases(500+) more cost effective. Still have that S&W .500 but I never shoot it & the on hand supply will do.

Copes Distributing has a special going on now. 1000rnds Speer Lawman 180gr. FMJ 40s&w for 399.95 plus 9.95 shipping. Best price I've seen lately.

And to answer question about reloading:  A lot of people still reload even though prices for reloading supplies has shot up and certain things like primers are scarce here. I would rather just buy newly manufactured ammo as little as I shoot anymore. I would never buy someone else's reloads. I don't trust myself to reload and sure don't plan on trusting any others' reloads either!

i agree, i will just buy the new rounds. just did tonight. more 38's and 357's. :2thumbs:

Everywhere I've looked you can still get ammo but only if you need shotgun shells, 17 HMR, 300 Winchester mag or 25-06 rounds. Well, unless you want 0, 00 buck or slugs for the shotgun. That stuff is nowhere in sight.

If the 17 HMR was offered in a reliable, tactical style semi-auto with a 30-round clip (as it should be) the shelves would be cleared of that stuff too. That's an awesome little round but they really need to build a nice gun around it.

i really like that 17 i picked up. the pic of it is on the new rifle just arrived thread. or something like that. it is a nice shooting rifle. im glad they havent caught on too fast. im still buying ammo for it.

I have heard nothing but good about them.  I'm looking forward to the 17 SuperMag which they just announced.  They claim it's a 300 yard rifle (rimfire!!).

i know there are massive backorders. the government is buying up huge quantities, and with the anti gun legislation, the general public is also stock piling. rounds like 223, 308, 7.62x39, 9mm, 40, 45 are all extremely hard to get right now, since people are concerned about having their guns taken away. I don't blame them. If some of these bills get passed, semi auto rifles and pistols will be severly limited, and one way to limit it is to ban manufacture of the ammunition used by these. Which is what many are afraid of. I'm not trying to get political here, but unfortunately in order to answer the question I have to mention politics. Sorry about that fellas. I do know most of the big ammunition plants are now running 24/7 trying to produce enough to fill back orders. but for every box that is filled, it seems there are 10 more orders. I am not going to mention companies or what not, to cover myself. The best I can say is that I honestly do not believe they will get these bills passed. I truely don't. And with any luck, things will start to get back to normal in the next 3 or 4 years. but until then, it's going to be a constant battle.

greenpigs

Yep

Take away the ammo and then what?

Still I agree that something extreme like banning the manufacture of ALL ammo will not happen. I grabbed some 22 shorts today not that I use them much but it was in front of me. :rotz:

It is not a good time to own something that uses 223 as if anything gets limited it will be that round. :Twocents:

Yes,  but I think they will first move to a new NATO round (not available to the public) and then limit, tax, and or restrict .223.

:o  I have never seen 500 round boxes at our local Walmarts, even before the panic buy.  You are very lucky, I am curious if it is regional thing.

I just bought a case (500 rounds) of the Winchester Ranger T's .45 this last week online.  Did not think I would see those for a least a year.

The ammunition makers have hired more help to keep up with demand.   I think we will see the gun panic come to a stop and then ammo will be overstocked.   Some good deals are coming in the near future is what I say.    Many people are like me now, not worried and no more panic.    We aren't going to loose our guns so I'm just waiting for the ammunition to plunge.     :Twocents:

Walmart is same here.  3 boxes per day.  Doesn't matter 3 boxes of 50 or 500 or mix--3 boxes
I just wanted some to go with the AR I puicked up the week before at the store.

yep, its just nice to have ammo for what you own. i purchased a taurus 9mm and couldnt find ammo. i had this gun for 2 months with no ammo. so when the gun show came up, i grabed what i could. made sure each of my guns had a few boxes. cant shoot without ammo. we have an awesome shooting range right by the house. so my toys get regular use. :yesnod:

I had plenty before the scare & I just order online & wait till it comes in stock. I have 100 rounds of double 00 12 gage coming in the next few days & 20 rounds of S&W .500 when they get in stock. Not in a rush & I will not pay out the butt to get it RIGHT now. The 12 gage was $65 & the 500 was $35 which are decent prices I think.

I've been seeing it show up more often recently. A couple weeks ago I couldn't get anything (other than military surplus or reloads) without paying approximately double the retail price. I put in a backorder at one place who still listed stuff at regular pricing but it looks like it will be a few weeks before that even ships. It's for stuff I normally don't use BUT friends do and they're willing to trade. Having said that, yesterday at lunch I ran across a place that actually had stock and they were only about 3 cents more than retail - but didn't pay tax so it worked out in my favor. Last night a little after midnight I stumbled across a place online that was apparently updating their inventory for today and snagged a whole mess of 9mm. Like enough to last me about 5 years! I figure I'll swap it with buddies who mainly shoot 9mm (I only have one).

On election day I went and voted and then went straight  to walmart and bought s case os .22 ammo.  a case of.357 and 2 cases of shotgun shells. everyone at the gun counter looked at me like I was nuts. However if you remember the same thing happened in 2008.

myk

I was part of a local 'ammo scouting group but I'm walking away from the gun thing for a while.  Besides, instead of paying a $1/round for my calibers I'll just buy new wheels and tires for the Charger-that part of my life never disappoints.  I will say that four years from now I'll be much more prepared for the next panic session...
