Corbeau GTS or Other Aftermarket Seats in a 2nd Gen - Need Opinions Please!

OK, so I found out pretty fast that with some decent steering & suspension upgrades that the stock buckets, well... just don't offer too much support when it comes to cornering.
Sooo... I'm toying with the idea of swapping out the stock headrest buckets for a set of aftermarket buckets in my '69. Looking for opinions here.

I'm looking into a set of Corbeau GTS II's, & have them reupholstered to match the factory pattern (similar to Autodynamics or Cooperman's car on this 'site).
I've located a nice set of barely used ones very local to me, & I could probably get them for a very good price. I contacted my upholstery guy who could whip me up a set of nice covers that mimmick the factory seat, also.

Anyone else here running Corbeau GTS II's? Pros/cons, likes or dislikes?
Any other seat recommendations?
Looking forward to hearing some responses or pics. Here's a pic of my stock seats & interior.

I bought a set of the Corbeau seats about 2 years ago.  Got them with the heat function too.  One problem I remember is that the supplied mounting brackets were way too tall.  I could not easily get into the car once the seat was installed even with no carpeting yet.  Corbeau said no one else getting the seats for a B-Body had complained, but in the end took the brackets back and modified them to make them lower.

Still have not driven the car yet, so I cannot tell you how comfortable they are or if they are effective in g-load conditions.

someone in the challenger forums installed a set of srt8 seats in their vintage 70 challenger, so i know it could be done, and those seats are very nice, i'm sure he had to fabricate mounts for them though.   Just something to think about as an option.  If i could put my 2010 challenger seats in my charger i'd consider it, but the srt8 seats are better  for holding you in place, they have better side bolsters.

The SRT8 seats ARE very nice, too.  
But... 1) I'd have to find a salvage yard close to me in hopes they even have a pair and, 2) They're gonna be pricey.
Warlock, do you have a pic of them in the Challenger? Anyone have a pic of them installed in a 2nd gen? 

Mike, I've heard that Corbeau had some complaints about their seat tracks & have since redesigned them to sit lower. Your seats look VERY nice!

Shame those aftermarket seats don't come with smaller headrests, as they almost look like the factory seats.

I'll have to do some digging to find the thread, but if i can i'll link em in.  You can usually find them in wrecked cars, or from takeoffparts.com occasionally.  I'd love to get an extra set for my newer challenger, just the fronts would be fine with me, then i could put them in the 69 i have if i wanted, or just use the R/T seats in the charger if i wanted real comfort.  I like my r/t seats, but i liked the srt8 seats more, they gave better lateral support.  And an old fat guy can fit in them comfy.  (alright, maybe not fat but not a skinny kid anymore at 200lbs.)

Not sure which forum i saw them on, could be one of two sites, i'll do some searches and see what i can find.

Bill I'm looking to do the same but thinking more towards Pro Car's "Elite" seats that can be ordered with no cover.

Neal, you got a price on those Elite seats without covers?    They look nice, too. Clean & simple.

Whatever route I go with, this is what I'm looking to do with the covers. The white buckets here are the Corbeau's.

In my original search for seats for my car, I too looked at SRT8 seats, and followed some other threads on aftermarket seats.  I seem to remember discounting use of the SRT8 seats because of one posting that indicated that the Charger floor would have to be modified to accomodate the seats and I did not want to alter the floor.  I don't know how true that claim was, but you may want to talk to some people who have used them to verify or disprove that requirement.

about the only alteration i can think of is maybe drilling 4 holes to bolt to the frame, the challenger has bolts welded to the floor, the old chargers have a hole where the bolts are tightened from underneath the floor.  Still haven't found the challenger thread, wish i'd bookmarked it now, still looking.  I did find a thread from a 69 charger owner asking for srt8 seats, he got three responses from people trying to sell them,  Think all they wanted was about 1k.  Which isn't that bad.

thats the ones i would go with use , corbeau's or Recaros , have a pair of recaros  up in the attic will get recoved sometime to match 69 charger seats  but been saying  for the last 20 years

I found a vendor for proper B5 Blue seat vinyl (Finally!) so I can match new to new for front and rear seats by using Legendary seat covers in the rear. I'm thinking of making matching blue vinyl "kinda" upper door trim pads also, it won't be correct but at least give a "finished" look. (For now.)

do you think you can remove the headrest and just cover the holes when its re-covered for us that need a non-headrest seat but still want the side bolsters???

But, if my luck pans out I should be able to score that set of Corbeau's I have lined up for even less than that.

  When you talk to your upholsterer guy (Knowing he MUST be good if you use him!) See what he would want to do mine if I had the seats and vinyl shipped right to him directly?  Mine would be the 70 Basket weave pattern (perforated) just in the insert back and bottom with solid everywhere else. He could ship to me in the boxes they came in.

Knew i'd seen the modern seats in an older mopar somewhere, found the thread today, it appears he installed R/T seats in a 72 challenger instead of the srt8 seats, but if it were me i would have gone with the srt8's, the R/T seat is plenty comfy (and heated) but the srt8 seats were better.  From the looks of the thread, he had to lower the floor pan an inch or two to keep the seats from sitting too high, i've got the link for the page where the seat pan work was pictured, he did awesome work, but its in an extensive rebuild of the whole car, so evidently has the welding skills needed.  The seat work starts on page 5 or 6, and goes thru 7.  Seats may fit different in a charger than they did in a 72 challenger, if you were local i'd say come over and take my seat out and test fit it, i've had the seats out before.

This is just me, but I don't like aftermarket seats at all in a charger. It just doesn't look right without the originals IMHO.

Stock seats look awesome but try taking a corner in them. You'll end up in the passenger seat or out the window.

You know, since I bought one of those cup holders that slide between seat and console, I haven't been able to slide anymore!   

I have to have original looking seats in my 69, it just doesn't look right without them.  I am going to mess around with the foam though to give them side support, but I don't think anyone will notice it's not stock.

If you plan on road racing your charger then just give in and get good seats.

Hey Bill, have you researched the ledgendary modified originals? I've heard rumors of them building a bolstered foam kit and covers to match . Maybe not what your after,but I thought is throw it out there.
