Hi guys I am new to the site I am restoreing a 1970 charger R/T 440-six pack fc7 pictures will be coming soon. You can call me plum crazy. I was wondering what would be back spacing on the front and back of the charger I have been told back is 4 1/2 and front is 4 1/4 is this correct?

I was scratching my head, too. 
In 1970 a stock 14" wheel would be 14" x 5.5". A stock 15" wheel would be 15" x 7". Backspacing would be the same either front or rear (front or rear wheels would share the same part number).
Backspacing, IIRC, would be 4-1/2".

Custom/aftermarket wheels are a completely different animal. Backspacing can be nearly anything you want. Some can be custom ordered with backspacing in 1/8" increments.

factory 15 x 7 rallye wheels are the same as a stamped steel wheel. the factory only made up to a 7" wide rallye wheel. so if you have an 8 inch wheel , then it has been widened or aftermarket , from wheel vintiques or the like. ive never used them , but i would imagine they left the backspace the same and the extra 1 inch in width is on the front side. i would measure and double check them , but either way , you should have no problem fitting them.

if you go repro magnum 500 or ralleys, here is the combo that a lot of people use and know will fit and look agressive.

Fr 15x7 4.25 BS 235x60x15 tires
Rear 15x8 4.5 BS 275x60x15 tires

only warning is that the 275 60 15 tire is 28" tall as ooposed to the 26" stock tire height.

I am back my builder is putting  295 r50/15 with 5" back space in the rear and 235 r60/15 with 4.5 back space in front mag 500

How does your car handle with that set up?

Just great mate. I can feel them hugging the tarmac and it's given me a much better grip at take off (less wheel spin). I'm sticking with them.

Having said that though, I wouldn't know what they're like in the wet as I never take it out in the rain.

Just FYI here, but a 295/50/15 really needs a 10" wheel. an 8" wheel will "work", but don't be too surprized if you actually drive the car, that the inside is slick and the two outter edges still have tread. No matter what the "Book" says will work for wheels. I have done it and found the latter.

Oh yes, sorry I forgot to mention that.  I've got 10x15" rims with 5" bs.

Almost the exact combo I'm running on my '68.
295/50's in the rear on a 10" wheel with a 5" backspace. Fronts are 235/60's on a 7" wide wheel with a 3-3/8" backspace.
No rub issues.
