I'll post more when I can... got the trip up to Oregon in the morning.

.... nothing more sinister than the lines on a Charger... especially in black IMO.

Just beautiful!
I know exactly where you're coming from and I couldn't agree more.   :2thumbs:
p/s I know the car is parked in a handy capped spot but it should be obvious to all that there is plenty missing.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

I sure like Chargers without vinyl tops.  :2thumbs:

Wow Fred, the paint looks fantastic!  What did you do to it?  How many coats of clear?

:drool5: That is gorgeous!  I too would like to know paint, clear, etc.

Yeah I agree. I'd prefer it w/o the top - but I can't help but feel that it would be a crime to take a triple black 68 R/T and then deviate from that

I mean guys all over the place are cloning that car, so if I were to actually have one and then alter it, (even if i think it looks better w/o the top), I'd probably feel like an idiot...

I'll post more pics tomorrow night or Saturday. Like I said, I've got a few of it in the booth too

The car is really stunning, I'd post more now if I could.

Triple black chargers are equally beautiful. Definitely stick with it.  :2thumbs:

First off xs29bb1, I didn't mean to steal your thunder. It's just that seeing yours made me relive the moment I first saw mine in paint. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen in my life (pardon me, the second most beautiful thing. Mustn't upset the mrs. lol). I couldn't get enough of it. Man what a feeling.

In regards to paint ......I went with two coats of black and four coats of clear. With the clear we did two coats followed by a 2000 grid paper wet sanding to remove any imperfections then another two coats. The good thing about four clear coats is that over time when there are any light scratches etc, you can easily wet sand it back with 2000 grid paper without cutting through to the paint. Then use an orbit polisher to get the her gleaming again.  And the car is like new.

Wow--I am impressed--- Black is the hardest color to look smooth.

When I first saw the picture I was about to ask if there was a new painting method.  It is next to chrome  :2thumbs:

I understand the process and time it took to do that. (There are so many steps that need to precede another )
A mistake in one step may not show up until the end.----So where are the flaws?   Any painter or owner know where they are

Thanks ws.  For me, it was all about getting it done properly, I couldn't have settled for less. I'm pretty much like that with everything I own.

So in a parking lot when two black chargers are next to each other, you would know which one is yours. :yesnod:
Again I am impressed--I have prepped and painted all my cars and understand what it takes :2thumbs:

Thanks Fred.  Don't worry about hijacking the thread, glad to get the feedback. Besides, once I get a few photos of my car up there I'm hoping we'll come back to my car.  ;)

We did something very similar. Several coats of clear, let it sit a couple weeks, wet sand the hell out of it with very fine grade  then several coats again.  in terms of number of coats we used 4 black, then 3 clear and then 4 clear. It was then wet sanded again until the finish was like a mirror. Just running your fingers over it is amazing... It's so smooth

And I agree 100% w/ what you said, first time you see it... Nothing like it

I agree, it would be a crime to deviate from any triple color 68 R/T numbers matching car. I sure like yours and Fred's car in that color.

I'm back from the Great North West...  I'll try to get some photos renamed/resized etc and post them up in a little bit.

xs29bb1

Here's a few in the booth right before paint...

xs29bb1

Here's a few in the booth right after the black was shot - but before any clear...

xs29bb1

OK - here's after clear.  The hood needed a little more wet sanding so was not yet attached in these.  I have a few more w/ the hood.

Sorry - these were taken w/ a damn iphone - it's all I had w/ me at the time.

xs29bb1

I have more, but I think most everything is shown.  It was a little tough because the car was in part sun and part shade, and the phone is well, the phone.  These photos don't exactly do the car justice, but it's all I got right now.

When I get some better ones, I'll post them up.

xs29bb1

Oh, here's one where you can see the front a little better - again too much of that sun/shade thing...
