What Happened To This 1974 SE Charger?

This Charger SE was at Boerne, Tx. Dodge Charger meet in late-May 2008. An older man owned it and the enclosed trailer pictured and I thought it was a beautiful car and I really wanted that trailer! He said he had just bought the trailer about 4 months before this and was asking 35K for the whole package. That was the car and the trailer.

His story was he needed another operation to fix one that was botched earlier and needed the cash for the operation. I really liked both and seriously considered negotiating a little better price but ,in the end, I did not want to blow my stash I saved for my restoration of my '69 for this one.

Just wondering, did anyone here get it or know where it ended up? Here are the pics!

That's one nice car. Think of how much better it would have be if he invested all that time and money towards a 71/72 R/T or Rallye

charge69

If the Charger would have been a '71 R/T or a '72 Rallye in the condition this one was in and the same price, I probably could not have helped myself and just bought it!

To ACUDANUT:  Well my 1969 will be finished very soon and, although I will drive it locally, I am not going to drive it very far as the highway would just give me too many dings in my paint for my liking. Even a relatively short drive to San Antonio (about 220 miles from my home) where my daughter and her family lives, is just too far for me right now.

I thought about just an open trailer but I hope my car will never see another drop of rain and that just cannot be accomplished with an open trailer. Road-rash can and does happen on the open road, even on an open trailer and going more than a one-days ride from home would make me very paranoid if my Charger was just sitting in an open trailer overnight somewhere. Yeah, I know an enclosed trailer has its' own problems but, for me, I would not travel with my Charger on an open trailer.

Besides, that trailer had a fresh coat of red paint applied already that was very close to my color (R6) and would have been almost perfect for my needs.

I have a big tex open with a home made wind dam.  It serves my needs and acomplishes all but the no rain drops part.

My buddy (Dan) that is doing the Lion's share of the restoration on my car right now has a home-made open trailer with a big custom wind dam (also home made) that he uses to transport his Chally or '69RR around and, you are right about them. His gives excellent protection from objects on the open road but, still, no protection from the rain.

Friend's have borrowed his trailer to transport cars to Houma La. and back (350 miles one-way)and I am sure it would pull anywhere in the U.S. but it just doesn't offer enough rain protection and leaving my Charger in a motel/hotel parking lot on it is just too scary for me.

How are you? I would be happy to meet you in the near future as I should be driving my car within a month or two,at most. Troy came to my home here a few years ago and took a bunch of pics of my Charger, pre-restoration. He was restoring a 1968 Hemicar at the time and had "Dana", his Charger 500 also.

I haven't seen either of his new Chargers (the Daytona or the 500)  in person yet but, I am sure I will someday soon. Got a daughter and her family that lives in NW San Antonio (The Dominion) actually very near Boerne now. I go thru Katy quite a bit to and from San Antonio but I have never lived on the westside of Houston. I am a native Houstonian and grew up on the SE side of town.

I used to work for the .gov but I retired in Feb 2011 due to health reasons but, boy am I looking forward to getting my Charger back on the road!

Back to the reason for this thread: Anyone know this car or where it is now? The phone number on the Charger was a "210" area code meaning the owner probably was from the San Antonio area.

PM replied to. I was at that show & remember that car, I think that was the show that also had that original 68 Charger with a 225 six cylinder.

charge69

You might be right about that! I was there with my grandson and his friend to look at the Chargers as my grandson (then 16)  showed an interest in them. He thoroughly enjoyed the cars and I was very happy to have another MOPAR person in the family. Since then, his enthusiasm has waned and I am just not sure where it will go after me.

Anyway, an answer to your PM has been posted.

there is one detail. That's valid if you only think on the value of the car, beside the car you really like ;)

I can think that maybe you are right, BUT if your fav car is a 73/74 SE, why not do it ?

Or if your fav car is a classic VW Beetle, why not to put the money on your Beetle ? just because is not that valuable ?

just a thought ;)

That was the prettiest '74 Charger I have ever seen and I really had no prejudice against the car for not being a 71/72. I just did not want to spend that much (35K) at the time. The Charger was, far and away, the nicest 1974 Charger I had ever seen I am sure he had more than that in it! The beautiful enclosed trailer was just a few months old and looked brand new!

ACUDANUT

I knew Nacho would sniff this one out and add he loves 73/74 Chargers better. :nana:

A guy I used to work with has a brother that lives in Spring, He had a real nice 49 Merc that he had done some nice updates to. A real cruiser. I think his name was Bill Glass if I remember right.
Dave

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

charge69

Tilar:  I do not know him and haven't seen his Merc out cruising around but, I get out a lot less now. I will see if someone knows him when the Niftee 50's shows start up again in late March. Bet I can find someone who knows him or maybe Bill Glass himself !!
