Running the power source for your headlamps directly off your alternator is it ok with an alternator that doesn't have a built in voltage regulator. my car has a separate voltage regulator on the firewall.

is the way to go when upgrading any relay system on ammeter equipped cars if you want to make your gauge work correctly and save from cheating loads on wiring and gauge.

This is valid with ANY kind of alternator. The ammeter presence is what defines where must be taken the newer sources

Not sure I understand the question.  Internal or external voltage regulator would make no difference. If you are talking about running your headlights with relays and getting the high draw power from the terminal on the alternator , it would work fine. The alternator terminal is always "hot" ,whether from the alternator is charging or just from the battery when the engine in not running. I would install fuses or circuit breakers near the alternator.  :Twocents:
