What is the Value of this Charger's Front-End??

I am looking at buying a pair of Chargers (68 & 69) and misc parts from a local car guy that I know.  He hasn't given me a price, but talking with other people in the area, I know what ballpark range he is in.  He bought the cars from an individual that was "restoring" them and lost interest.  He used a few parts on his own project Charger and is ready to sell everything left.  The '69 was being built into a drag car.  The work is very far from being complete and many parts for the back half are missing.  Anyways, an aftermarket front end was installed on the car.  I have no use for the front end but I have a friend who is interested in it.  My question is, what is a fair price for this front end in it's current condition?  The rack is Wilwood but didn't look to see what brand the calipers were.  It has zero miles on it, but it has been sitting and has surface rust all over the bare metal areas.  I'm not looking to get rich on the front end but I need to start somewhere.  I don't want to give it away, but I also want my friend to get a good deal.  The sale price of the front end will have a big effect on what I offer the guy with the cars.  Thanks for any advice!!

This is the current state of the front end.

This is what it looked like when he first bought the two cars.

You know what's sad... they guy who was building the car paid over $2000 for the front end from Jegs.  The good thing is, everything still spins and turns freely like it was brand new.  The car has been sitting in this spot covered up since Aug '12.  So it hasn't been in the weather too terribly long.

Looks like some kind of dirt track set up to me... :scratchchin:

Value?

I'm sure somebody might want to shove it under a Camaro or something, but I wouldn't haul it away if it were free.

A rebuildable 426 Hemi engine block looks like scrap metal to hundreds of millions of people.  Including quite a few intelligent and mechanically-minded people.

Specialized items are always worth very little to most people, but a lot of money to the few who are shopping for it.

Since it's been put on the car, it's considered used, even if it has 0 miles on it.  I'd look up the parts in Jegs or Summit and then divide by half.  That would get you pretty close to what it's worth. :Twocents:

Do we include the devaluation to the Charger in the price of the front-end?

If so, then it's value is -$2800.

Drag race setup only (notice the rotor thickness) you would have to change out the rotors and calipers for street use.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Thanks for all of the input.  I agree that it is definitely "USED" but at least there is no wear on parts like ball joints, bearings, etc.  I was thinking about the $500 range.  Would I be letting it go too cheap at that price?  Like I said earlier... whatever I sell it for will basically leave me to come up with the rest on the total purchase of everything.  I am interested in the "package deal" for other parts that interest me.  Items like two sets of nice doors, two deck lids, one cluster, one grille frame with H/L door pods, LOTS of trim, a new 2 piece trunk pan, a pair of full length floor pans, and other misc parts.  The drag car is really only good for parts, as sad as it is to say.  The 68 is a stripped shell that has been chemically dipped and primed but has a lot of rust issues and some damage from being moved around.  Thanks again!

I'd be asking the folks on "Racejunk".com instead of here. Here, it's only worth scrap prices... :smilielol:

$500? Why not? Ask $1k, see if he bites. You can always negotiate.

$500 seems like a decent number to me.

A buyer who was specifically in the market for that setup (and wasn't a friend) would probably pay several hundred more.

The individual components probably have some value (ie steering rack, shocks, hubs, calipers, upper/lower control arms if a trusted name brand, etc). Rotors look shot, they are heavy rusted & thin so they might not be able to be cut. The fabbed frame setup who knows. Could have value, could be scrap.

You say its a friend that wants to buy it.......how good of a friend?.......My friends trade things around so much, and labor on my projects that if he was a good friend I would just give it to him....I think he would have to spend a few bucks getting it street ready ...
if not free a couple hundred bucks....

Mike DC

I agree it might be more valuable in pieces than together.

I dont think you want to piece it out cause you will be stuck with parts nobody wants. any greater $$ potentail from peicing the front end will not be worth the hassle. It looks like it could be good trading meterial or a good gift idea for a freind (one that may return the favor?) If you want 500 list it for 750, real interested  buyers will not be put off by the extra $$ but the fakers will. Plus it gives you cushion for the negotiations

Thanks for all of the input.  If I can get the cars & parts at a price that I'm shooting for, then I we'll be able to work a deal.  I talked with my friend about it the other day and we are both happy with $400.  Actually, he jumped on it too quick... Oh well, I'm good with that. Thanks again
