Some folks here in arizona are asking roughly 16k to 30k for a 426 the complete ones with original carbs  complete, etc, are asking 30k and the ones asking 16k are missing the carbs, but everything else original.

JB400

I've seen one vendor asking $13k complete engine carb to pan ready to bolt in.

John_Kunkel

The price of a complete '65 Race Hemi would be considerably higher than the '66 and later Street Hemi.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Let me know some contact info for that person, my friend is doing a 68 and needs a Hemi, but have not found one at a real good price yet.  You can PM if you want, thanks.

30K is ridiculous, the carb are $3k max for date coded set, so if you purchase the 16K and add them in it would be way cheaper.

That's not an original hemi is it? A new one with chrome valve covers and a single 4bbl is NOT the same.

Very true I think STroker is talking about the new hemis you see on Jegs granted they claim Gen 2 hemis 426s, but original in car hemi back in the heyday are worth more!

Is there a link? I'm guessing this might be Tony's Parts. Am I right? It sounds like it's missing carbs, fuel lines, fuel pump, balancer, accessory brackets, air cleaner and filter, (oil pan?), mounts, etc. Just those parts will cost another $4,500 or so. Doesn't sound "ready to bolt in" to me.

Depends on how complete it is, what year the engine is and what condition it is in.

You can't compare the price of a crate Hemi versus the value of an original date code engine.  They are two different animals.  Both are expensive.  '65 would be a race engine only.

Think of a crate Hemi as more of a weapons grade item you drop in a car to have fun.    The date code engine has value for restoration purposes.     The right year and condition core engine if complete with carbs, headers and hard to find bits could approach the cost of a crate engine.

There is a lot of old used up junk out there too.

I saw one once, once.... and i've been kicking myself ever since.  $1000 for a complete disassembled original 426 hemi, all new parts, sitting in a corner of a garage that was closing.  If i hadn't just wrecked the parents car with 1500 damage, i would have gotten it.  One of those one in a lifetime deals.

oh no , see  thats murphy & his damn law  :brickwall:

i remember when  mopar preformance  re-released the 426 hemi block , in the early 90s , think they  were between $1300 -$1600 dollars depending on who from , was all set to order one  , then read in a mopar mag there had been problems with the first batch of blocks , something  to do with the lifter gallery i think , i thought no biggie wait a little while till they iron the bugs out of the new castings , then i'll order one up  :yesnod:  then life got in the way as it normally does , now you got to pay round about $3000 +  last time i looked  , for a world block , something i'm not keen on , only cause it don't look stock . guess all new  oem looking blocks are all sold & long gone , should of bought one when i had the chance :brickwall:

thought that was tonys parts  , he has some good stuff , had quite a few bits off him over the years,  getting off track a bit , was tempted to buy a 440 block he had fore sale , it  was a september or october cast 1968 , standard bore E series 440 hp block with a bare vin pad never been stamped ,  kept looking at it for months & months  ,  would of been a good date code for mine ,  :yesnod: but decided against ,  i already had another spare block  !! could not justify spending $1300 plus shipping  ,  not as if it was my  #original block  , thinking about it now perhaps i should of got it  :scratchchin:

Here is my date-code-correct and numbers-matching '69 HEMI with original carbs, intake and accessories except for the TTi polished ceramic and thermal barrier headers installed. I still have ALL original parts for it in a box, including the exhaust manifolds. Had it professionally rebuilt including all new OEM rocker arms and have a little over 13K just in the rebuild.

By the way, if someone can find me original date-coded and rebuilt, including cadmium replating of the parts, all original linkage and springs carbs as in the below photo, for 3K max, I'll kiss your azz on Broadway and give you 2 days to draw a crowd. It just ain't gonna happen around here and that is just for the carbs.

By the way, that is a MSD distributor on it but I still have the original one. I am driving this car so it will have a complete digital-6 ignition on it when finished. The digital-6 iginition is already bought, just waiting to finish installing it discretely, except for the distributor and wires! :icon_smile_big:

Nice to see thecorrect brass fitting in the top of the steering gearbox, but has the metal end of the PS hose have an extra bend in it as it comes out of the pump?  :shruggy:
