Timing Chain Cover Question

I may need to replace the timing chain cover on my '71 Scamp (318) & just found out that Chrysler had moved the timing marks from the passenger side, to the driver's side at one point. My '69 Satellite has it on the passenger side.

Anyone know what model year that change was made & why?   :shruggy:

I believe 1970 went to the move to the driver's side. I ran into this problem when I swapped in a 360 crate into my original 318 Charger. Not sure why the change. Maybe to accomodate something with the E body (started in 1970) ?

Thanks, I was just curious & never paid attention to the difference before.  :2thumbs:

The aluminum cover on my '71 Scamp is damaged from one of the steel bolts that passes through it. It had seized & the corner of the cover now has a chunk of metal missing. I've lived with it, but have always kept my eyes open for a replacement & found a brand new one pretty reasonable as part of a package deal from someone I know. He mentioned it was a later one & different, so that raised a red flag to find out more.

I hate buying wrong parts because I didn't know.
