Okay...its a Mustang, gotta be a part time Ford guy on here...what do you think...could be a fun toy till I find what I'm looking for...no?

Lack of info and pics concerns me, don't know much about Mustangs...but...for $2500...maybe less...Now, gonna sound like a dumbass, but these things are unibodies, right?

Here's what he says..."Last year for the four eyes.fully loaded.5.0L 5 speed car.first year of fuel injection.some rust issues.Comes with new front fender.will take trades.$2500.00."

That would be a Fox body Mustang. Yes, they're unibody. Good point is, it's got a 5.0. I don't see where a convertible could be fun in Ontario though in the winter time.  I guess you would be considered the coolest guy in town?  At least parts a fairly cheap for those.

Ram07

Well, we do get some warmer months every now and then...asked for more detailed pics....he says it has 34k on it...thinking more like 134k....but if not rotted out underneath...thinking $2000?

Even at 134km(just over 83K miles, not bad for an 1986)

5 speed Mustang Convertible...way more fun than a 6 speed Kia Forte5, I'm thinking!

IIRC, that has the Roller bottom end with flat top pistons and no eyebrows. Also has "truck" heads with the most compression, but don't allow for any cam upgrades with any kinda lift. Not very desirable year unless you swap out the engine for an '87- up Roller engine.

Be even better if it was a Coupe. Convertibles are NOTORIOUS for rusty floors due to their "Bathtub" design. (ie: Holds water like a bathtub when it rains)

I owned an 85 Mustang GT for 20 years.    Good cars.  Cheap, fun, fast for the low money.   The convertibles are a bit flexible.    For the low miles and money, it's hard to get hurt buying one of these off season.   I would shy away from rust if it is significant.    Examine it like you would any other old car.

I didn't do it, but got interrogated for it. :brickwall:  Long story :P

68 CHARGER R/T

Its a fun car i bought mine new in 1990,  i wouldn't sell her,  easy to modify and parts galore you can get for cheap  :2thumbs:

Bobs69

I've thought of getting one too.  The Charger is killing me!  Money money money no fun.

Then you better leave these alone. Before long, parts begin to get expensive for these as well. Mine started out as "only" a Muffler upgrade, Shorty headers, and 3.73 gears. After 5 years it was 6 point caged, twin N20 Kits (400 Shot), Engine 302 with major upgrades, 7 T-5 trannies and one PA C-4 auto, 8.8 rear upgrade, Southside machine bars, Subframe connected, Front seats made out of Plastic, etc. Ran best of 6.60 8Th mile, but at what level of fun?

Please guys, let's have NO illusions here. These 5.0 Mustang's Can be just as exspensive, if not MORE than these Chargers. VERY few here are out to be King-o-the hill with their Chargers and they only have to "Look" good at shows.
With these cars, it's a never ending battle for streeet supremacy as YOU and YOUR mustang 5.0 are the "Test bed" for the rest if the idiots lining up beside you at the stop light.

Will definitely be a fun car....I had some fun with my '99 GT for a while...

When I was a teenager my neighbor collected fox body Mustang convertibles. He always had at least three and preferred the pre-85 because of the carburetor. I had a Capri Turbo for a while (sort of like an SVO Mustang with less boost). It wasn't the world's greatest built car but it was a lot of fun. My roommate has an 89 5.0 5-speed and it is a ball. The engine is only mildly built. I like the cars overall but there are a TON of them out there so I would buy the one with the least amount of issues.

My wife had an '88 GT hatchback with a 5 speed that she loved. It was a blast to drive & very reliable. She really wanted the LX because it looked more like the '85 or '86 style, but just couldn't get a dealer to find one without tacking on several thousand over sticker.

Like the others said, as long as it isn't a rot box, it might be a lot of fun if the price is right.

$2500 seems a bit high for a rusty Fox body... :Twocents:

I don't think that style had fuel injection either?

EFI came out in 1986 on the Mustang.

guess i'm a closet mustang fanboy, owned an 82 GLX 5.0 (basically a deluxe GT) drove it as a daily driver for 9 years, 154k and i just couldn't kill it, it kept going.  I sold it for 1500, in 1993.  minor issues only, the ignition chip had to be replaced a few times, a fuel pump and a clutch a couple times, but other than that it kept running great till i got tired of driving it and bought a dodge stealth turbo in the nineties.

After the stealth i got a 2000 GT mustang with the 4.6v8, drove it for 5 years, then bought a 2004 SVT cobra mustang which i drove for another 4 years, then bought a new dodge challenger

Across the board...Didn't 1985 GT Convertible come with CFI, and single exhaust? I know the '85 GT came roller and 585 CFM Holley 4BBL. with 5-speed cause I bought one off original owner.

To be honest, I don't remember. I do believe they were carb through 85 so maybe 86 was the CFI. I'm too tired and not interested enough to look it up right now. I almost bought an 87 once but it I were looking for one now it would be 89-93.

85 was the last year for carbs, they went FI for 86.  To my knowledge the GT's had duals in 85, my 82 was a single.

Ahh, I'm not losin' as much of my mind as I thought...

http://www.flemworld.com/85/info.html

In 1985 it would seem some Convert. models got CFI. 5-speeds And AOD models could get either way in '85.
Single exhaust with "Y" pipe as well on Converts.. Only GT Hatchback got true duals. 1986 across the board was EFI.
The infamous 8.8 "Bulletproof" rear came about in 1986.

Simply put yes it could be fun.   I've admitted defeat myself and considered getting one.  Already done!  Preferably all original and loaded.  Instant gratification.  Won't bring you to your knees financially.
