Question about 70 Charger hood callouts

Did they only come as a pair in each hood scallop facing out to the sides?  Or could you get them as a single one on the leading edge of the hood facing the front?

I have never seen just a single one facing the front

Saw it once and a friend insists you could get them that way and I say no, they only did them in the scallops.

yea...inside the hood depressions is all I have heard...either one on each side facing out, or one on the drivers side at a 45* angle I have seen as well. Not sure if the single one at an angle is factory correct.

Hmm, don't know that I've ever seen it on a 45.

I'm pretty sure the 45° thing is just dusters, no evidence it was ever a Charger option.
On '70's the hood blackout treatment, V21 is actually kinda rare (*300 total all models) as opposed to the V24 call outs for 440 and Hemi available after Nov '69 (no production #'s)  numbers ALWAYS in the scallops

It actually didn't look that bad at all although I think I prefer the factory way with the pair of them in each scallop.

FC7 V code

Mine is coded for V21 although the build date of November 12th seems to be the day or close to the day that the V24 was first offered. At the moment and probably for the next year or more no black paint treatment on the hood at all. I'm hopeful to get the Charger in for new paint over the winter of 2013-2014 with the V21 added, but currently I am involved in the resto of a 70 Challenger for my Son. When we stripped the car in 1983 it had been painted numerous times and we just figured the black paint we came across was a color that had been sprayed on by some PO. We came across the original FC7 and then in order white, silver, and black in some areas along with the coat of purple that was on it when i bought it that was just sprayed over everything else. Information wasn't so easily obtainable in the pre-internet age and we didn't know all the fender tag codes. So it was just painted solid purple with it's original black vinyl top. It still wears it's 1984 paint to this day although it was off the road for quite a few years in the mid 90's until this year. I know...what the he%% was I thinking??  :rofl: I have noticed the hood call outs are offered in a few different colors now. Does anyone know what the correct color is for them? Or were different colors offered from the factory/dealerships back in 1970 also?  I'm also aware red-lines don't belong on it either, but in 1984 that was being done by memory also and believe it or not those are 1984/1985 vintage tires its wearing. They will be changed out to something roadworthy by this coming spring. Thanks to anyone who can answer my question about the original color of hood callouts.

I've only seen them in black or white.  How many colors have you seen them?

I seen one with red callouts back in the late 80's-early 90's(think it was at the Iola, WI show)and another that looked like they were more silver than white a couple of years ago at one of the Northern MI shows. I was wondering if those were just custom stuff or they actually could be ordered that way when new.

ya' know with all this discussion I'm thinking about adding "383" call outs to my car (one of 191 V21 cars!)

From the factory were the 440s painted on or a decal over/under clear?  We are sending our car off for a respray and currently the 440 was painted on.  We may try to keep the look as it will be gloss black insert with Sublime paint, so it looks cool with the green colors.  We may go with the white decal though.... :scratchchin: :shruggy:

They didn't clear these cars back in the day.  It was a decal applied over the paint.

Base/clear has become by far the most popular method for painting now and the stuff they used on our old Mopars is even illegal to spray in many areas today.
