It's newsworthy because the information that took too long to be shared happened this time to be in regards to the Vice President accidentally shooting someone. If the communications daisy chain took so long to reveal something like that, who's to say it doesn't take equally as long to reveal something even more serious?

Typical of this administration, shoot first and put a spin on the story later.

Valid observation.

You're going to have to quit voicing such opinions or you're gonna get an invitation to go deer hunting with Rove...

This is a damned funny thread! :icon_smile_big:

Pertaining to the original topic...yes, the media in general unsually does a piss poor job at keeping an unbiased reporting opinion on most stories these days, IMO. As a result, I rarely watch the news these days, other than to get weather reports & traffic conditions. I just feel that I can't take what's being reported on as even 50% truthful...especially whe it pertains to political & global news.
In all fairness to Strat, I've never read his paper, so I can't hold judgement there. ;D

I hear Dick is going to ask Hillary Clintoon to go pheasant hunting with him next week and I hear Dick is going to use a Barrett .50 Cal for pheasant hunting and Hillary is going to get a BB gun.
That would be SWEET!!! :boogie:

i guess you missed the point...  ::)

What point? That you think this is some grand conspiracy? Give me a break as was stated before, I pheasant hunt in south dakota and Grouse hunt in northern MN. I have been sprayed by beebee's probably a dozen times over my hunting career. The guy that took the pellets is just as at fault as Cheney. Every hunter's responsibility is to know your surroundings and not be where you shouldn't. If he had to go retrieve a bird, he should have made them wait there, and they (the hunting party)  should have heeded this. Separating yourself from a hunting party is a recipe for disaster. I thank God everyday that nothing has happened to my family or me in all the years we have been hunting, But it can happen if you let your guard down. I feel so sorry for how bad Dick must feel right now, knowing you caused someone physical pain has got to be heart wrenching.

You said earlier that People who feel the way I do would have a different opinion if the shoe was on the other foot. Well I got to tell you, that is BS. I have convictions, I don't follow party lines like you appear to be doing. I break down the situation and apply my own experiances. Then I judge it using common sense, Not Democratic or Republican talking points. If you are so paranoid that you want to believe the crap that you are spewing more power to you, but you are not going to convince me with that radical banter.

As far as your Journalism class nonsense, I took Journalism in College, so using your logic that makes my point of view more authoritative? Hell no, I know alot of people that aren't journalism students that could give you a run for your money in a debate. They are just regualar folks who do their own research and stand by their principles.

P.S. If you're such a great journalist, You should be able to better explain your point! ::)

To Derialed, who is off the rail again...yes, I do believe that if the tables were turned (and if there were such a thing as a conservative slanted media) that they would probably report fairly, unlike the status quo.
This is such a nothing burger, worthy of only one days coverage at best on a slow news week. Now if VP Cheney had killed someone, ran & hid, then showed up later with a cheesy neck brace on, then theres a story (which would be swept under the rug by the press depending on the players) Com'on libs, you guys have been Quayle hunting before while loaded for bear...whats wrong with that? Let it go already. Come back when theres a real scandal...Ooops you might have to wait for the next Dem admin for that...Just be patient..it might happen again someday when you guys get your act together.. ;D

. . . and while there is no organized liberal conspiracy, in the media the plain and simple fact is that a majority of those who run the media outlets and work there (and I don't mean the owners) are very politically liberal people.  Therefore the stuff oozes out of them whether they plan it to or not.

For the most part, however, they typically try to remain unbiased in their reporting but I think it's more what they decide to report on that shows their true colors. Meanwhile they are oblivious to this because their opinions are so deeply ingrained it just comes out of them regardless of their best efforts. In short they will preach the gospel of fair and balanced reporting and then subconsciously lean to the left when they gather their information and write the stories, especially those stories that touch on politically hot topics.

The Cheney thing: it's a lot like the incident that took place in the waters beneath the Edgartown Bridge except Harry Whittington didn't die like Mary Jo Kopechne did and there weren't a bunch of lies and attempted cover-ups.

The network media are a bunch of spoiled brats who think because they are protected by the 1st Amendment they are entitled to everything on their timetable... So things are relevant to know right away, some aren't.....  The 1st Amendment entitles the press to write articles based on facts, true facts they have... It doesn't mention anything that the government has to had over anything they want when they want it... Press, you have to work for somethings,, not just get it handed to you...........

Geezzzzz, give it a break media........

So what is the deal with getting the licence AFTER shooting the gun?? And the Sherriff asking questions the next day?? If it were you or me, (let's hope it never is), we would be either in jail or out on bail.

A few months ago I was sitting at a red light when a cop on a Harley tried to squeeze between me and another car. He scratched up my fender with his clutch lever. After trying to deny it and his boss nailing him to the cross, the police wanted proof of MY insurance. Well,,, I had an expired card in my truck and they wanted to tow my truck. I called my wife and she brought my new card which had just come a few days earlier in the mail.

My point is simple, I did nothing wrong and was getting my balls broke lawfully. Cheney, though it was an accident, SHOT SOMEONE WITH A GUN. Sorry folks, this is news worthy. I think when you put yourself in the public eye and I think we can all agree that the VEEP is up there, your laundry is going to be hung out there for all to see. IMHO Cheney played this hand like an idiot. As if he just doesn't give a crap who thinks what... Regardless of what CNN< FOX< MSNBC or your local crap shooters are saying, the media WOULD HAVE put Cheney on the air in the middle of the Super Bowl if Cheney said to do it.  The fact is, he did not. Cheney has created this on his own.

PS. Now I wonder just how many will try: (I know I don't have a license, but,,, I will send in the check tomorrow)..

I thought he had the licence, just not a stamp.  Not having a licence would probably get you a fine, but the additional stamp?  For the #2 leader of the country?  rrrrrright....

Big Lebowski

Why did it take 24 hours to tell the press about it? Ask the swimmer, Sen. Ted (hic-cup) the swimmer Kennedy.
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

Vice- President Cheney did explain his actions today, so the facts are "now" out. Speculation on the real reason he delayed in getting the story out will be the domain of the bloggers and the main-stream media (same thing in my mind). I kind of laughed at the reaction of the White Press Corp at not getting the first shot at the story. Now, If you don't like Vice- President Cheney, so be it. But I think he is one of most honest and sincere men this country has had in office for a very long time. And that is my opinion, so please take it for what its worth. This "investigation" is what I term  :horse:"""""".

I want to clarify my position.

I think this is news worthy, as he was a public figure and they have to pay dearly for any and all mistakes, just by being in the public eye. But I think that implying that it is some grand conspiracy is rediculous. I pray that the victim is alright and he forgives Cheney as just about anybody that has to deal with a similar situation would have to do. Cheney and the victim made some serious bad judgement calls, cause they are HUMAN. Humans make mistakes, even Vice presidents.

Weeeeell.... this one certainly has a lock in it's future.

I've got people on other forums saying that Cheney should be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and that he should have been thrown in jail right when the police got there.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but, for this to be considered assault, doesn't there have to be intent, or malice?  And, is ANY hunter involved in an accidental shooting immediatly hauled off to jail? :rotz:

The level of misinformed people trying to give everyone their 2 cents is astounding.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

bull

I don't see what's so bad about shooting a lawyer anyway. :shruggy: Cheney was probably just trying to reduce the number of people on Social Security.

Brock Samson

SO how long does it take for your blood alcohol level to diminish anyway?..

Dans 68

Strat,

You ask, and I comply! The link http://www.ou.edu/oupd/bac.htm has a blood alcohol level calculator, base upon number of drinks, type of drinks, body weight and drinking duration. If the Vice-President had the one beer he said, and he had it over a one hour period (reasonably for lunch) and at the greatest weight allowed in the formula (240 lbs), then his blood alcohol level was .01%.

Not impaired at all...so I guess he really wanted to shoot the lawyer!  :icon_smile_big:
