QuoteSteven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and HBO are set to re-team on a third WWII mini-series, this time revolving around the Air Force.

The power-house producers previously had success with Band of Brothers in 2001 and The Pacific in 2010.

The source material this time around will be Donald L. Miller's non-fiction book Masters of the Air: America's Bomber Boys Who Fought the War Against Nazi Germany.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series "will explore the aerial wars through the eyes of the enlisted men of the Eighth Airforce, known as the men of the Mighty Eighth."

Spielberg and Hanks will produce alongside Gary Goetzman, although there's no word on a start date as the show is in the very early stages of development.

Very cool thanks for posting, I can not wait.

Band of Brothers. . . my all time favorite movie/mini-series.  It is a true masterpiece.

Cool. Memphis Belle was a great movie.  80 percent would get shot down and killed.

Memphis Belle is a good movie.  It could use a remake, as the special effects are a little rough and is not really historically accurate.

I think Hanks and Spielberg should do a Pearl Harbor mini series. We have yet to have a really good movie/series on Pearl Harbor.

If it's a Navy Movie, Battle of Midway would be great

Ah gotcha! Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing a really good Pacific series on air combat.

So far though the pattern is:

Ground Europ
Ground Pacific
Air Europe

So maybe "Air Pacific" will be next?

I'll be watching and hoping it comes close to Band of Btrothers.

Anyone else think Pacific was kinda so-so?

+1, it didn't have the punch that Band of Brother's did.

The first time I watched it I thought it stunk, the second time it was much better. Band of Brothers draws you in. . you connect with Easy Co.  You feel their victory's, their loss, you genuinely care about the men.

Not The Pacific. I do not like the Bob Leckie character or the actor who played him. I would have much rather seen more of Jon Basalone or Eugene Sledge.  The best part of The Pacific was the Eugene Sledge portions, in my opinion.

Yep, I thought the Pacific was OK but not nearly as gripping as Band Of Brothers.
Pearl Harbor would be awesome.  I have been there twice and you can't explain how breathtaking and unimaginable it is until you reall see it.  In fact the second time we went for the December 7 ceremony. Unbelieveable.
As far as series, I watched the entire Untold History Of The United States on Showtime.  That was excellent as well.

It's a good history lesson, but, IMO, "Untold" is stretching it a bit.

I think the type of war in the pacific theatre does not lend itself well to the docudrama type mini series.  I think it fits better in battle specific type movies.  (But that's just one guy's opinion.)

EZ company was like Seal Team 6 meets Hoosiers, meets Forrest Gump.  They were just bigger-than-life and always where the action was.

Speaking of bigger-than-life, I'm looking forward to someone bringing Unbroken to the big screen.

all documentarys lean one way or another somewhat, that happened to be the other. But everything I looked up was true as car as I could tell

I don't' have a problem with accuracy or political slant.  It is informative.  I watched it a couple of times.  It's just that most of it is told.  Between the title and the narration, the tone is that he's uncovered a great conspiracy. (of course: in-my-opinion :icon_smile_big:)

I would agree with you on that. Allof OS's projects are like that.
But like you, I enjoyed it anyway

Band of Brothers really made you feel the hell that was the war, especially the Battle of the Bulge.  The Pacific was good, but other than the Sledge parts, you really didn't get the same feeling.

Honestly, I'd love one of these done from the Enterprise's point of view.  Midway, Coral Sea, the Turkey Shoot.
