U joint strap problem

I have snapped the small retaining bolts on the rear joint caps a few times. This has only happened a few time but I really was hammering it. I do not race the car and it was on street tires. I used grade 8 replacments. The car had worn out stock rear springs and have read that the rear can wind up and somehow the yoke contacts the cap. I don't quite understand that. I have since replaced the springs with MP HD ones if that has anything to do with it.  I never broke a u-joint. Moroso makes an aluminum u-joint cap that bolts threw the yoke anyone have experience with these?
Thanks Dave

Got an adjustable snubber?   :scratchchin: They help!

No snubber yet. Won't that bottom out on the street? THis is not a track car. Am I really twisting the rear so much that it is causing some type of u-joint binding?

Snubbers were standard equip. for that reason. Adjustables' allow greater height to tighten down windup of the center section. I have this one on my car:

The screw up and down are really nice but more money also. (I had to cut mine down some to keep it lower as my car is stock also.)

Dave, believe it or not, you are harder on that car on the street than you EVEr will be at the track...Just FYI. BB/4-speed and Small U joint? Not the best set up BTW.

You'd be surprized at how much axle windup occurs when "Bangin' " gears.

Will this avle windup cause a u-joint bind? Is this the reason I am popping off the straps? I know the small u-joint is not the best but I am not breaking the joint, just ripping the straps off. I imagine that would happen with the big joint as well

Yup, can't be certain in you case but sounds worth trying! I've run everything from 0-120 WFO banging my auto all over with no problem and am running the big/small U joint in the back on a 3.23 sure grip 8 3/4.  :2thumbs:

I have some old  school traction bars should I bother with them or I better off with the adjustable snubber. I probally am not going to beat on the car now. I would not want to get rubber on the fresh paint

Get the one that's screw type adjustable, they were not around 18 years ago when I did mine.  :yesnod:

The pinion snubber does the same thing as traction bars. I would go with the pinion snubber. As far as the straps, the girdle that Moroso sells is supposed to be strong, but you could also use a U-bolt strap like alot of other makes. Either way you go you'll have to drill all the way through the bolt holes.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.
