I have seen a a lot of misinformation in this thread so I thought i might be able to clear a few things up, if you want a full auto firearm of any kind it HAS to have been made or converted prior to 1986, the only full auto allowed after that are police and military only. If you want to buy one made prior to 86 you can with a $200 tax stamp from the goverment and a extensive background check that currently is running 7-9 months plus the cost of the weapon say a registered m16/ar15 is gonna run between $10,000 - $20,000. If you are caught in possesion of or making one it can be 10 years of your life in federal prison and a$20,000 fine. The slidefire stocks are legal and make a semi auto ar15 shoot like a full auto it's fun for about five minutes then its kinda pointless.
