I can get a 440 with a 727 from a motor home for 450. The motor turns over great with the starter. Is this worth it. I have a 383 in my car. Just wanting to know if its a good deal and that I shouldn't pass it up. I got the cash. Might get it to put it in something or a later build. Not sure of the year yet. Thanks

Are you sure its a 440?  Just about every so called 440 motor home I saw get put up for sale turned out to be a 413 that the owner thought and advertised as a 44o.

I'll check it out myself when I look at it. I was directed to it by my brother. A Chevy guy.

Check and see what year it is before making any decisions........ at least it is easy to crawl under and read the casting numbers and date codes on the side of the block.  Typically motorhome engines are low mileage and well maintained.
I have bought several over the years........ :2thumbs:

That's what engine I have in my Charger.  The one that was in it wiped out the cam, I came across a complete engine/trans from a 74 Motorhome.  I checked to make sure it was a 440, it was and bought it.  I tore it down, resealed and painted it, put the car oil pan and accessories on it, dropped it in and put 8,000 miles on it since.  It's not the most powerful engine but it does what I need it to do.

Unless your going to do a rebuild with higher comp pistons, and a better cam...id pass.

To add to what Oldcarnut is saying, The 413 made for motorhomes is generally pretty easy to spot. The water pump is higher up on the front of the engine than a standard water pump. Just about centered on the line where the intake meets the block.

My dad had a 440 in his 1977 motorhome. That was the SMOOTHEST running 440 I ever heard.

MAke sure it's a 440, then swipe it. They make really great stroker motors.

I have a 440 in my Dart from a 77-76 motorhome...if ur not planning on rebuilding it and putting higher compression pistons in, you should pass. I have six pack rods and pistons in mine with a RPM intake with an old .509 cam...has a ton of torque.
