Actually, my buddies name is "Bernt". I finished this one bout two years ago. Total restoration. Rebuilt 440, 4-speed, 8 3/4 with 3.55 Sure Grip. Chassis dyno'd out at 375 HP to the rear wheels.

No. IMO, doing that is like a "Model car" type resto. Money wasted. Ever see one of those type cars that's cleaner underneath than on top, actually driven? Looks like pure D sh*t in a couple months from rock chips and what not. Underside was cleaned and left the original "pisspuke70'sgreen" color, then undercoated.
That color is actually off a newer Hemi Ram truck.
To answer the "is it fast" question....Of course, Jon was like most kids in college spending pop's money at the time, He wanted to outrun Z06 Vettes and such, but his budget dictated he could only settle for boiling the tires through 3rd gear. It was fun, and fast enough I guess. He was kinda like many here when they start out, he wanted it all, wrapped up in about a $3K price tag, get around 15 MPG with a carb, ran flawlessly, never overheated, always dependable, etc...However, after seeing what kind of musclecar it actually took to outrun most really quick cars round here, changed his tune and began a very mild build on the 440.
