Some others from the 50's - early 60's are right there for me as well;  The Creature From The Black Lagoon, The Monster of Piedras Blancas, The Hideous Sun Demon, 13 Ghosts (filmed in Illusion-O!).

More recent recommendations are 1408 with John Cusack, and Samuel L. Jackson, and Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Black & White, great useage of lighting and shadowing effects. I think I was five when I was supposed to be asleep for the second feature movie at the drive in when it came out. Stayed awake in the back seat, watched the whole thing and never slept again until I was ten!!!

Yes!  I love the shot where the camera goes low and points up under Perkins' face.  I think it's the scene where he's being questioned by the detective.  Hitchcock sure made some memorable shots.

Sure was, so was 1408.  I agree those were some pretty good recent horror flicks.
