why do you like mopar??

When I was a kid (17) I drove a 1969 Chager R/T with a 4 speed, for two weeks. It already had a hard life, the 440 was replaced with a 383. Had that nice console, too.

Hooked on Mopar ever sinces. That was 1975 or so.

For me, a few factors -

-Good 'ol Dukes of Hazzard got me hooked on Chargers.

-First time I saw a Superbird (owned by Frank Rolland in Chicago) I absolutely could not believe how cool the car was.   Love at first site!

-First Mopar show I went to and saw an AAR, TA, M-Code, Daytona, more Chargers and more Superbirds.

-All my friends were mainly Chevy guys.  I like to be different.

I always liked the styling and the lines of an old moPar, a little different, I also liked that they are a little rarer than the others. I also like to work on my cars, so from that standpoint I like the fact that, on my big block, I can take the intake manifold off with removing the distributor, I can take the water pump off without removing the housing, I like the fact that the oil pump is external and that I don't need to drop the oil pan to get to it. I also like that the distributor is up front and once installed, you can pull the distributor out, and put it back in easily, (due to the tongue & grove), and not have to worry about lining up the gears again. Because they made the 2nd gen Charger.  I like 1st and 3rd gen chargers and the occassional Cuda but no more than I like a 67 GTO or a 32 Ford or a 42 Buick or or or.....

I like a ton of classic cars from all over the world as long as they are rolling sculptures.  I don't think I have a special love for mopar as so many here do but by building that 2nd gen they sure got my attention!

There are other makes of cars that I like. I love all 3 years of the 2nd Gen chargers, But I also love having what most others do not have.

grandma and grandpa drove Mopars, 1951 plymouth; 64 polara. My Dad 57 Fury wagon, 67 Dart GT (my HS car), 75 Duster. Then he switched to Olds and Caddy after I got out of HS. (after I sold the 67 GT to my brother, I bought a 69 Dart Swinger 340 4-speed. Edelbrock high rise, Holley 650 DP, hemi grind cam. headers, dual point distr., etc.)

When we went to buy the Dart in late 66, there was a Garnet Red 67 Charger 440 4-speed in the showroom. I thought it was the most beautiful car I had ever seen....until I saw a new 68 Charger, vowed one day I would own one.

My cousin drove Corvettes...so I liked being different.

Well for me i was fortunate enough to have parked in my shed for a few years a matching numbers 1970 T/A 340 six pack Challenger which i kindly was babysitting for a friend who didnt have room at his own place to store it (what a shame haha)...Popping that roller door and seeing such a beautiful staring back at me just ignited the desire to own one which for most ppl outside of the U.S like myself dont often get the chance to see in the flesh let alone own a Mopar.
I also love the classic lines and nostalgia behind these cars they are just a tough car from an era that would of been fun to be a part of..

I worked for Dodge dealers for 20 years or so. 1972 I was washing cars worked in service, body shop, warranty writer, service writer and service manager. My dad was the controller and always had demos. He loved the high impact colors I've seen them all and owed a 1966 coronet and 1970 dodge charger. By the time I had demos as a service manager it was the late 70's through early 90's. Unfortunately they were Aspen's, Diplomat's, Cordoba's cough cough then Lee came along and we had the K-cars Omni's, Minivans etc.. I did manage to have an Omni Charger 2.2 turbo totaled that demo. Most of my time was at the infamous AutoLand on route 22 in Springfield New Jersey aka Dodgeland aka North Plainfield Dodge. My sister still works in F&I at another dealership.

I got tired of dreaming about my Charger and broke down 2 years ago and bought 2 1972 Dodge Chargers selling one of them to get another b body project. I currently own 5 Chrysler products. I love Mopars and am currently building a 440 six pack for the one I am keeping.

My dad was a Ford guy. I got hooked on Mopars after seeing the 69 Charger, and riding in the one my Dad's co-worker owned. From the Charger I fell for the 69 Roadrunner, then the 69 Superbee, and then..... lots of other 66-74 cars and eventually the trucks of all years and then fin cars from 57-61. I can't change. What would I do with all my spare parts?

I always loved all cars that look cool to me. I grew up in a family that always had GM cars, but we had a lot of friends that were all Ford or AMC people. So, I was into Chevy's and Ford's mostly. Then around 1986, I lost my driver's licence in my '74 Nova which was setup for the quarter mile. I then started looking for something with a smaller engine. A friend I knew from high school had a '78 Aspen R/T that had the Spectrum interior (black cloth/white, orange, yellow, red vinyl interior) which after owning the car I learn only 628 total Aspen's were made like that. But I always told him, if he ever wanted to sell the car, to let me know cause I loved the interior on it. Well, it turned out the transmission craped out on him and he asked me if I wanted to trade even up, my Nova for the Aspen. So I said hell yes being I couldn't drive for a while, and had time to put a transmission in it. I ended up owning that car for 10 years, the longest I ever owned a car. Wish I still had it, but the engine needed a rebuild bad, and I couldn't afford it, so I sold it. But that car sold me on Mopar's. Then when I bought my first truck ever in 1989, I bought a '75 Power Wagon, loved that a LOT, and never have I gone without a Dodge truck since. (I did have 1 Plymouth Trailduster though)

 (Im 19 now), i like them because before i did, i liked tuner cars (you have permission to throw up in your mouths) because those cars reminded me of my hotwheels collection, then i saw the dukes of hazzard show and that singlehandedly switched me to musclecars, Gm's, fords and mopars, but mopars will always be most special to me because of that. I don't have any plans to build a general, as i like black more than orange, but i appreciate them.

The Charger, sure, great car.  The Superbird, my favorite. . . . They had a few other cars back then which were cool too. As far as anything newer than 1972 made by Mopar, I will pass. I was once a "Mopar or no car guy".  I then realized most of Chryslers stuff was less than desirable and I was missing out on some great cars and trucks built by GM and Ford.

It is my wife who has a newer Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, and now wants a new Ram 1500 4X4.

I love mopars ALOT, but I also love ALOT of other cars ranging from gm/ford even the inidpenents... They all had alot to offer and I think the brand loyalty crap is for boneheads...but here are some reasons I dig mopars:


-Chrysler is the underdog that exceeded the pack

-they were outnumbered but also out in front (of whatever else was trying to catch up)

-Crazy colors, great  drive-trains and over the top graphics, names and just cool styling.

-They took to the muscle era with a passion, Last manufacture to offer duel carb setups

-HEMI!!! enuff said

-Nobody could touch plymouth in police/fleet sales..wonder why? Maybe they were better cars?

-57-60 chrysler products were amazing and ahead of their time (suddenly its 1960!)

-pistol grips, shaker hoods, good looking dashboards/gueges

-Good looking steering wheels

-A12

-Wing cars!

And of course the 68-70 charger is a big hitter with me, I feel it is one of the cars that the stars eligned and everything was just "right" about the styling...Look back 70 years in america automotive history and you will see that this happens almost never.

This is why i love Mopar

It's about styling. Look at that beautiful,mean ,tough looking car. 68 - 70 are (in my opinion) slightly better looking than 71-74.  I had a 68  in my high school years so I'm a very slightly partial to them.  But my recent purchase of the 71 SE has me just as happy.

I have a Passion for all cars that are cool in some way shape it form. I've had many  different years makes  and models. I also don't see anything wrong with a mopar only type of person.  Cars bring out your  persnality and good feelings. If thats what gives you satisfaction  than that's just the way it is. Just like there are very few old foreign cars that I care for. To me the best looking car in the history of cars (period) , is the 68 charger. Than comes my 71 of course.
