:yesnod: Nacho is correct, at least that's how mine works and my wiring is unmolested.

Sometimes the sockets corrode and short to ground internally. You can try pumping your socket with WD-40, Liquid Wrench, B'laster PB, etc. Use a hooked pair of needle nose to work the plastic base of the socket in and out for a while. There's no way to non-destructively remove a socket, so, if you can get the old one functioning, it's better than splicing in a replacement.

i still couldnt figure it out ...there s green wire(ground) black (running) and grey break ...so i ended up useing the two middle lights as running and turn sighnals and the outside as brak and running

anyone tell me how its supposed to go ? :brickwall:

Nacho-RT74

green is high intensity filament on one side... brown the same to the other side, both for turn/hazzards/brakes

black is parking/positioning/running, whatever you calls

gray is ground on plastic housings

violet is backup

Get your multi-tester (or test light) and open the trunk. Under the mat on the driver's side, there's a four-pin connector. Pull it apart. With the lights on, you should have voltage on the black wire. Left turn signal on, you should have intermittent voltage on the green wire. Right turn signal on, you should have intermittent voltage on the brown wire. Brakes on, you should have steady voltage on the green and brown. If that checks out, your problem is in the rear harness or, possibly, a bad bulb. My Charger had a bad four-pin plug on the body side when I bought it. I cut out the four-pin connector and spliced in two two-pin connectors from Radio Shack.

The rear bumper/taillights come off as an assembly and one person can lift them off. If the body wiring checks out, you can put the bumper/taillights on the bench with a 12V power source and troubleshoot in comfort. Sometimes a bulb seems perfectly fine, but is internally shorted and will cause you all kinds of headaches. My Charger had a loose piece of solder that would sometimes roll around in the fuse block and short out my taillights. Drove me nuts for years until it finally fell out on to the mat.

since 70, when you have brakes pressed and one turning signal on, the side you decided to blink, will keep blinking and the other side will keep on on brakes

setting hazzards will eliminate the brakes function... blink function goes over the brakes

earliers were opposite, getting brakes light overlaping blinkers

do you want to know what I'd do as first step ? unplugg brakes pedal switch and fit a jumper between wires ( they are one white one pink ) and try to get all 4 bulbs working with that signal.

Remember they are brown wire in one side and green wire to the other side. Both get the same signal from brakes pedal, but spliced internally on turning switch

from that, everything else will turn easier if turning swith in column is in working order

Make sure you have a good ground too. If you have a turn sig on then hit the brakes and they go out or everything starts blinking crazily it's a bad ground. If my memory is right the white ground wire attaches to a support panel in the trunk. Could be corroded. Remember, no matter how good the power is to the light or accessory it has to have a good ground to complete the circuit.

well see the thing is my car has all new wiring ...so im kinda starting over its kinda like the (painless) kit..i know my turn sig . switch in the column is bad so im temporaily using a two way toggle ....

71 SE3834V

Ok, new wiring but you still have to have good grounds. Make sure what ever you attach the grounds to is good clean metal. If all else fails if you're not sure if the ground is good run a long wire back to the negitive battery terminal.
Is this a new wire harness you're working with or are you wiring from scratch?

ok thanks ...ill check that ...ive tryed for like three days to wire them like that ...now i have em wired so the inside ones blink for turn sig. then the outsides are just break and running ...and all four are runnig too ...its just so im legal for now ..im still doing body work ...and as far as wiring its a kit i bought ...kinda like a painless kit but WAY cheeper ....works good

Nacho-RT74

Did you made the wiring mods with the stock turning switch ?

I guess then you are running the white wire from brakes pedal switch straight to rear outer bulbs, and the Dark green and brown wires just getting the inner bulbs ( one each side )... right ?

and turning switch IS NOT GETTING the white wire from brake pedal source. Because if does, inners will still work like brakes
