Body side molding, to protect from dings along the body line that runs just above the fender wheel-wells. I know we all hate that stuff but I found some that is just 1/2 wide and 1/4 thick (self stick chrome rounded shape.) and after working all the dings out of the sides of my 70 I'm thinking of using it. My car is a daily driver and gonna get bumped, it always happens.
I'm hoping someone has a shot of any 2nd gens that had it to get a visual.  :scratchchin:

Here's pics of my '69 back in 1993 when I bought it.

Hey thanks that really helps!  :2thumbs: (Not as bad as I remember.) I was trying to find one that could be painted but gave up)

Get a paint softener.  I used to paint motorcycle seats on the side and found out recently that my buddy's old Yamaha is still his daily driver and the seat still sports its metallic gold flake paint.  It must be 15 years since I painted it.  Back then I used Glasurit soft face but there must be more options out there these days.  With that you can get any rubber moulding and paint it before mounting it.  You can tie a knot in it and the paint won't flake.  Amazing stuff.

The moulding may help but it's not a given.  As a driver it will get dinged, there's little you can do about that.  I'm not too eager to find my first ding but it's gonna happen one of these.

All you can do is chace the guy down, let your padssenger roll down the quarter window when you pass him, load the shotgun and...oh wait, that was a movie.  Nevermind!
