dumb timing ?

I know i should know this but just to make sure, on my 383 i turn the dist CCW to advance timing correct?

Rather then trying to remember which way to turn it I found it best to look at the vac advance and see which way it pulls the breaker plate to advance the timing then turn the dist the same way. This way no matter what kind of engine, with a vacuum advance, you will know which way to turn it. I hope that makes sense. Trying to figure out another way to explain it. I could look at any dist. w/a vac adance & tell ya but don't know if I'm explaining it right.
