Anyone deal with Bumper Boyz out of CA?

They want 400. + a core for a rear 68 - 70 Charger bumper.

They are set up at a meet N. of Detroit, so it could be seen and picked up in person.

Opinions ??
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Ghoste

Avoid them if you can, they have a bit of a reputation for poor quality and thin chrome.

What meet is going on n. of Detroit? The Gilbralter Trade Center winter swap meet? Hope not. I wanted to attend that one.

Dammit. . . . Me too!
Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

I've heard nothing but bad things about them.  You know a company is doing something wrong when someone struggles to find ONE good review... We ended up meeting Tri City Plating out of Tennessee at Carlisle to drop our bumpers off, and picked them up at a later event. They came out excellent!  I think they charged 500 per bumper (They were off a 66 Newport so they were decent sized).  However, I don't know how convenient they'd be for you, meet-up wise.

Their chrome looks tinted to me and not cheap.  They were present, so you could at least check them out in person.  The swap today was all makes, not the WPC meet.  Someone beat me to one of the few Mopar parts at the whole thing, a very nice console.  It was complete, auto, black, wood grain, with no cracks - $100!   :'(.    Also, a pretty clean hood for a 70 and some tail lights, already sold.

Cooter

Had 'em do a couple sets of bumpers for customers (At their request, and MY protest) and came out "ok". However, about 3 years later, the backs of original bumpers were cracking, peeling, and chrome was peeling off in sheets. NOT COOL. I'd stay away if poossible. They look REALLY good when at the swap meet, but you aren't looking fot your $1000.00 bumpers to look good only in fair weather and for 2 years (All the warranty you'll find with them).

Sounds like the Boyz should be avoided at all co$t...   Thanks for the input guys.

What I'm looking for is not show quality, but more of the OEM look, retaining the marks associated with originality.  Any contact info for Tri-City?

As stated above - it was NOT the WPC event.  Very few MoPar parts.  It was a good meet to buy work gloves and tools!      :smilielol:

Yeah, no kidding!  Even for the "other" guys, it was 50% tools and other stuff.  The WPC meet has a lot more actual parts and its all Mopar.  :2thumbs:

I haven't done that Detroit swap meet now for a few years.  It was always bad for a lack of Chrysler stuff but it got worse with all the cheap tool and bungee cord vendors.  The WPC one is the end of the month and that is the one to go to. :2thumbs:

We used bumper boyz for our first antique car.... our 71 buick GS convert and they peeled within a couple months.  Our el camino, charger, and challenger convertible has all had tri city plating bumpers and they offer a life time warranty!

I e-mailed tri-city last week. I asked if I brought my bumpers to spring carlisle could I get them back at the chrysler show. They told me that was plenty of time. That's my plan as of right now. Nothing beats free shipping.

When it comes to chrome, you get what you pay for.

I haven't seen Tri-City's work up close & personal, but I'll be checking them out this year at the swaps.

The Bumper Boyz suck balls, period.  Tri City is the ONLY place I will have bumpers done.

Any place that spells Boyz with a "Z" I'm staying away from.  And yes, I've seen their bumpers at the shows and the chrome was already peeling on the edges.

I certainly agree with Ghoste.  I purchased a grill guard for my 1959 Impala Convertable fro Bumper Boyz and Tri City plating cleaned up the mess I bought from Bumper Boyz, but they did provide me with a part that was hard to find.

I tried that number. It's no good.  Keystone automotive in Kansas City sent them off.   You might see if your area has "keystone automotive".

ACUDANUT

Okay, Found another number.  Chris @ Keystone 913-982-4227.
He can find another Keystone close to you.  They are getting 314.00 to rechrome a rear bumper on a 69 Charger.

hawkeye

acudanut... i sent them out of kc also, just wondering how yours turned out.  hawkeye

JB400

What condition was your bumper in before you sent it Acudanut?  Did that include bumper guards?

ACUDANUT

I took my guards off. I am sure it is the same price. Just keep them attached !!.  My bumper had a small dent in and and the chrome was shot.

khodne

Keystone's phone number in Minneapolis, 1-800-328-1845.  $419 for the front and $419 for the back on a 1970 charger and the same prices on a '67 GTX.

thrillbilly

They will let you just swap bumpers if you don't care to have your originals back.  I've had my tri-city bumpers for 3 years now, they look just as good as when I bolted them on.  I too was told to avoid the Bumper Boyz.

There is a good Chrome shop out here in SoCal called Verne's Chrome Plating

Bob Barnes is an awesome guy to work with...

He does a lot of chrome work for pebble beach cars and is known to make trim pieces that are missing or lost.   :2thumbs:

see them at the shows we always laugh  when we walk by  ohh it's zee bumpr boyz          all they do is run around a buy all the old  bumpers  while everyone is setting up  so someone looking for something special cant find one   so then you have to buy from them  I know its business  I don't like it

archie360

The rear bumper on my 72 rallye was from bumper boyz.  The finish was GONE, I tried polishing this turd to no avail.  I took it to Sandy's Bumper Mart which is about 20 minutes from me and I'm very satisfied with the results.
