Another School Shooting in CA (Is It Now an Epidemic?)

Just read this less than 10 minutes ago.   :o   Not any kind of "assault weapon" but a simple shotgun. My guess is that it was a one on one between two students, not some type of planned mass shooting. It's going to be a huge debate for some time with all this happening more frequently.

Student shot another student with a shotgun at Taft (California) High School on Thursday morning, police say

Police: Suspect is in custody; wounded student airlifted to hospital

Below are the latest updates as they come to us.

[Updated at 2:19 p.m. ET] A student shot another student with a shotgun Thursday morning at a California high school, said Ray Pruitt of the Kern County Sheriff's Department.

The shooting happened in the science building at Taft (California) High School near Bakersfield, Pruitt said. The wounded student was airlifted to a hospital, and a suspect is in custody, he said. Earlier, the county's fire department said two people were hurt, though it also said the second injured person had "minor" injuries and refused medical treatment.

Details of what led to the shooting weren't immediately available. Pruitt said he didn't know whether the shooting happened in a classroom. Law enforcement officers were going through the school to "make sure there no suspects outstanding," Pruitt said.

Taft is about 25 miles southwest of Bakersfield and 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

The equally sick bastards are the media. Every gun related issue is plastered all over the papers, TV and radio. Like many have said this only encourages others to do the same. Yeah yeah freedom of the press......I'm all for it but they must be responsible for what they spew over and over and over. This type of shallow sensationalist crap is not journalism. I retired as soon as I could from ABC for this primary reason. Seeing these piss poor decisions made daily by news directors and producers who should hold their program content to a higher level was intolerable to me. Don't get me wrong I covered a lot of good stuff....real journalism but its a lost public responsibility IMO.
We can't and should never censor freedom of the press but when are we, the public, going to demand the blood monger media do the right thing.

That shit happens allot in the Calif. LA & Oakland areas & other inner-city liberals stronghold, allot more than an area like Taft, that's a real rarity, SoCal or the Bay Area's they just don't rarely even report much on it, it doesn't fit their liberal ideology to report on the urban-plight & their violence issues, especially related to firearms, it's not usually in the classrooms either, but in the school settings, it's mostly all gang related issues, or Black on Black or Brown on Brown losers "territorial violence"... most larger schools have metal detector at all the entrances now, in the troubled areas... Gun Control is, being able to hit what your aiming at, on a regular basis... not taking guns away from the law abiding public  :Twocents:

Gun violence & gun control is the hot item now. I think both the media & the general population itself are guilty of trash coverage. Meaning that the media gives people what they "think they want" but when the quality standards are as low as they currently are due to what the general population consumes, you can't expect much. It's a vicious cycle. Just look at the trash TV that is "popular" & makes money. All the phony reality shows with ridiculous amounts of drama rule the airwaves. The Kardashian pigs, Honey Boo Boo, Jackass, & all those chefs that'll kill one another for the better ingredients.

Of course the way I see it, & to borrow a quote from George Carlin from 20+ years ago......

Our differences...... that is all the media and the politicians are ever talking about, the things that separate us, things that make us different from one another. That's the way the ruling class operates in any society. They try to divide the rest of the people. They keep the lower and the middle classes fighting with each other, so that they the rich can run off with all the fucking money. Fairly simple thing, happens to work. You know, anything different that is what they are gonna talk about. Race, religion, ethnic and national background, jobs, income, education, social status, sexuality, anything they can do to keep us fighting with each other so that they can keep going to the bank...........George Carlin

And that goes hand in hand with the fact that the media is corporate owned by approximately FOUR companies & stands to make even higher profits by dumbing down society. (thanks to deregulation) Limit their access to knowledge, control all of the primary sources of information including the news, the education system, major news publications, major magazines, and the major radio stations. Make everyone live in fear, make them believe that there is someone around every street corner ready to stab them in the face.

I've just about given up on any chance that there will ever be a mainstream media source that can be trusted to inform people of what matters.   ::)

How much of this stuff has to do with the conspiracy of coddling society now pushes in this country? Basically, political correction. No one loses, grades are rarely given in elementary schools, everyone gets a participation trophy and they don't keep score. And then we wonder why kids go ape$4it in their 20s when someone finally tells them no, or you're fired, or you failed, or you are wrong.

"A new analysis of the American Freshman Survey, which has accumulated data for the past 47 years from 9 million young adults, reveals that college students are more likely than ever to call themselves gifted and driven to succeed, even though their test scores and time spent studying are decreasing.

Psychologist Jean Twenge, the lead author of the analysis, is also the author of a study showing that the tendency toward narcissism in students is up 30 percent in the last thirty-odd years.
This data is not unexpected.  I have been writing a great deal over the past few years about the toxic psychological impact of media and technology on children, adolescents and young adults, particularly as it regards turning them into faux celebrities—the equivalent of lead actors in their own fictionalized life stories."

Holy crap, We're raising a whole generation of presidents?

This Doc in the video has it nailed in fewer words than I have used to describe it.  More importantly he is using the "P" word - Parents.  In any and all of the social issues regarding children (including 24 year old childred) PARENTS are always strangely omitted.

If your looking for a zombie apocalypse, you don't have to look much farther than a generation of socially detached narcissists.
Best yet, they are going to be our caregivers.  Can you say euthanasia?

Ok, now I have to go outside and yell, "get off my lawn!".   :icon_smile_big:

exactly the lack of parenting or good involved parenting, by both parents, also the denigration of the way the schools run & teachers are passing kid thru the system, instead of actually teaching them something, especially in the larger inner-cities to be more accurate... it's becoming the what can you do for me now generation, it's truly sad..  :Twocents:

"Back in my day I had to walk to school.  Through 10 miles of snow.  Uphill, both ways!"

You guys are starting to sound like every generation complaining about the ones following it.

Given the circumstances that modern kids grow up in compared to 50 or 100 years ago, I'm surprised there aren't a lot more of these shootings & other violent incidents.  There are also 2-3 times as many people in the USA as there were in decades/centuries past.  That means 2-3 times as many opportunities for psychos to be produced.

I'm not arguing against the idea that modern kids are getting more narcissistic.  IMHO they probably are.  But I don't think they are proving to be especially violent, all things considered.

Two idiots shooting at each other in the library.  More than likely gang members according to the area the school is located in.
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

Wait one second, something is awry! Of the two states mentioned only Texas should have shootings like this because the Brady Campaign website gives California a score of 81 out of 100 while Texas only scores 4 in strong guns laws to prevent gun violence. Why wouldn't the shooters comply with these laws?
