:2thumbs: Bobby looked real good in the qualifing race too. In fact both Petty cars did finnishing 4th and 6th. I hope sunday is a good race for them too.

Of course Jeff Gorden had to ruin the second race by winning :icon_smile_dissapprove:

why do people get so upset when the most talented driver, who happens to have the best prepaired team winns??

TruckDriver

Its not his driving. I agree he is a good driver. It's his personality. He's a moron, a whiner, a finger pointing cant except blame driver. Everything he has was bought and givin to him by his rich step daddy. I like drivers that fight to get what they got. "old school" drivers if you will.

If he was the most talented and his team was the best prepared, wouldn't they have been the Champions last year?

For me I guess I have a tough time forgeting 1997 and seeing him win every 3rd week.  I enjoyed hating him.

It was like when I was growing up watching the Montreal Canadiens win the Stanley Cup every year.  It was kind of different, because I hated the Habs since before I was born.

Shame about Riggs though.  As much money as Dodge is throwing behind Evernham, you think they would have something figured out by now.  Chrysler withdrew most of its factory support from the truck and busch series to focus on cup.  Apparently they are still missing something.

I suspect it's many of us that are missing something. The Car of the Future program will eventually make individual makes obsolete. And that time doesn't look to be too far down the road.
Chrysler is by no means new to racing, and - so far - has been one of the few auto makers to demonstrate the ability to maintain profitability while looking to the future.
It would seem to make sense that continuing to invest money in a body style would not be worthwhile. What would make sense would be to develop a program, talent, and squeeze in a little research and development.
Just my take on it.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.

The COT program still maintains individual make nose design.  A Dodge front end will still be designed and submiitted by Chrysler for approval.  Currently the hood, roof, and decklid dimensions match the production vehicles.  With the COT program, this will change and all makes will have the same hood, roof, and decklid dimensions, dictated by Na$car.  Tweaks to to the current nose are necessary to remain competitive.  At the earliest, we have 36 races this season and most races next season before COT is implemented.  That is a lot of time to squeak by with 2 or 4 wins on short tracks where aero doesn't play that much of a role.  Teams and sponsors will demand a car that can run in the top 3 week in and week out.  If the Dodge can't do it, they'll run a make that can.

On a side note, I find it very interesting that the new Ford car did not miss a beat, changing sheetmetal and all. According to preseason testing and Daytona Qualifying race results, the new Fusion seems to be a better race car than the taurus.  Maybe Chrysler can pick up Ford's racing engineers at a good price since Ford seems to be in financial trouble. ;)

something we can ALL hope for! im very gladd to see petty geting there act back together after all these years.

as for gordon , no he hasnt dominated in the last couple years, i dont think his team is at the caleber it was in 97. also the compition is getting stronger by the year. there is still no more talented driver around. he does tend to whine some ill agree, years back i think TV kinda looked for some whining from drivers. if you remember it used to be very comin.

I believe dodge has tryed several new noses, but nascar has rejected them if im not mistaken.

Lightning

from what I've read, the COT will be used in the last half of the '07 season mostly. It's debut will be at Bristol.

from looking at Nascar's version of the Charger COT nose, it's a LOT closer to the production's nose than Dodge's is! Dodge keeps putting it in the bumper, while Nascar's is where it should be, albeit a tiny bit laid back.
when racing deals fall apart.....you go home, like me.

Instead of starting a new thread about the 500, what is your guys take on Nascar not penalizing Tony Stewart more than they did? For some one who bad mouthed aggressive driving all week, he sure dolled it out today.

What's wrong with having another thread about the 500?   :shruggy:

There are about a dozen threads about 500's in the General Discussion.   :D   :nana:

BTW, I think Stewart's a whiny little bitch!

TruckDriver

Gotta admit though, he sure makes the racing interesting. Sucks both Petty cars got wrecked. Although, it was good for a while when Bobby was running up in the top 10 for a while.

Kyle went backwards in a hurry it seemed, but Bobby made his way up to at least 6th at one time I think. Pretty good I thought considering he had to start at the rear of the field.
