My car was built in June 1971 at the Lynch Road plant. Anybody know when production for the Charger RT's and Superbees ended at this location?

I agree with July. Probably at the end of the second week before the shutdown for changeover to '72 models.

I noticed your screen name and wondering if you have a '71 Six Pack R/T? My dad has one in Butterscotch.

Yes the model year runs from July to july . It is still that way today.

I don't have a 6-pack car now. I was looking at one a few years back and registered that name to match the car but the deal fell through and I kept the screen name. My car doesn't have the fender tag and build sheet so I am trying to find out when it may have been built. The sequence number is 187723 so I'd like to hear from any other Charger owners who have numbers sequenced close to mine and know their build date.

hemigeno

Rich,

Are you saying that the last six digits of your VIN are 187723?

That seems awfully low for a Lynch Road car built at the very tail end of the model year.  Lynch Road would probably have used up the 18xxxx VIN's in the late fall or early winter of 1970 more than likely.  Just curious...

JohnnyBee

I have a V code '71 Super Bee in the database that the Vin # seq is 195966 with a build date of 630

hemigeno

Boy, how things change in just a couple of years.  In '69, Lynch Road was into the 29xxxx VIN's in June/July. From what you guys are saying, they built 110,000 fewer cars just two years later...

I will have to check my dad's '71 lynch road car.

I looked a little more and found 186716 w build date of 601, so it does look to be in the mth of June

Dad's '71 was built 318 and is around 139,000 on the sequence #.

Thanks to all for trying to help me out on this. Yes those are the last digits of the VIN. It may seem low in relation to the model year but remember that the bottom really seemed to fall out of the market then. Just look at the difference in e-body cars produced from  70 to 71. If I recall also the amount of  Charger RT's went from something around 20k to just over 3k from 1970 to 1971.

There were actually a little less than 10,000  R/T's built in 1970
77 Ram-Charger SE factory 440 'Macho' package
03 Ram Hemi 4x4 Pickup
Noble M400
72 Satellite Sebring Plus +

mopar1

does that mean a 71 r/t is more rare than any other production r/t chargers.

rich4406bbl

Sorry about the 20K number. That was for 1969 wasn't it? No matter. Yes, I believe that the 71 RT is rare compared to the other years but of course the 69/70 model year can boast a RT/SE model which when mated with a Hemi or Six Pack are rarer still
