Okay, here's a good one...how much can a guy expect to pay for EVERY bit of - including shifter - linkage for his 68 440/727 R/T? Should I plan to mortgage my house?

Only if you buy it on e-bay or the swap meet at the Mopar Nationals and actually if you take your time, you can get a fair price at the Nats.  As to how much, that's a good question.  I would expect to pay less than $50 for everything from the shifter to the transmsission.
