Is it just me or 3rd gen Chargers seem to be going up in value? Used to be able to buy 73-74 for $500-$1500 for ones in decent driver shape now one that "used to run when parked" goes up for $4-5K.

my opinion only the price max is probably 10k well done up with restoration thats what the 'Market' can bear, but NICE runners run max 5k from 1500 or its been that way for year and half.

some will ask for 30k or you might see a super rare 426, 4 speed, with dana 60 rear end etc...they ask for 30k to 90k.

Prices are rising on all gens. It goes up and down with the rest of the economy. A lot has to do with where you are at in the country too. It.seems like prices out west are much higher than in the midwest, that is my own experience. My general observation has them higher now than two years ago. I see A body prices going up too.

IMHO a lot of mid-70s muscle has been chronically undervalued.

They always have it has to do with popularity if a movie made muscles cars from the 70s more often like the 60s the values would jump.

I have been looking  and yes I believe they are going up . I think that  the rise in the 2nd generation chargers have caused people like myself  to look into the 3rd generation chargers .the higher the demand the higher the price . of course ,time will bring the value of all of the charges  up.

I do not doubt it. As far as a 72 se...IMO it's nothing special.

I was under the impression that a Special Edition was infact special.

I have not seen $1500 for a good driver since the late 70's when everything Big Block was dirt cheap... They are still getting $1500 for K-cars down here!!!  :eek2:

There around they are runners.  I dont post the craigs ads since folks probably wont be interested.

No all the chargers from 66 to 74 are special.

It's funny, Back in the day we used to call these Chargers "Chicken Chargers". Mainly because of the long looking nose. Of course, as with today, we didn't think too much of them when there were $2000.00 running R/T's to be had. Now, as the supply of 2nd gen Chargers seems to be drying up, I see these being a better option that a brand X, or K car for mopar fans between 15-30 Y/O.

The mid-70s cars have been undervalued partly because they were performance slouches from the factory.  But they often had better looking styling than the hi-po cars from the early/mid-60s.  And all the hi-po stuff still bolts right on.  IMHO they are prime for value increases as matching numbers & factory originality becomes less important to the average hobbyist.

When you don't have any familiarity with mid-70s stuff in its original form, and you just see those cars as the sum of their parts & potential today . . . they seem nearly as cool as the '68-72 stuff.

A few years back I looked at a 3rd gen, 71' I think, and had been sent to it. Owner wanted 8K for it. It wasn't far away and I wondered why I had not seen this car before, until I got to the car. It was at a repair shop only a mile or so from me and I even knew the owner of the shop. That should have been the first sign for me as I never got a call from him on this CHARGER FOR SALE at his shop....  Well,,,, this poor child that bought the car through EBAY and paid a ton and waited for months for it's delivery, would up with a car I would not give him 8 LETTER "K"s...  I cannot even imagine that pictured lied enough to make this bondo buggy look good...

So my buddy that owns the shop tells me the story and shows me a copy of the EBAY ad.  The car was from somewhere in the N.W.  I can't remember now. It said FAIRLY NEW PAINT with a few runs and a missed ding.....  People, it had a BULGE HOOD. Only problem was the BULGE was made on a stocker hood into a BULGE HOOD with BONDO!!!!!!!!! It was cracked and lifted in the back and painted with a drippy rattle can!!!!!  I asked my buddy if the kid was still in the hospital from the heart attack.  The ad did say it needed a new interior and that part was true. I would say that completely stripped this body would NOT have made a good demolition car. Topping everything else off it had a 318 automatic and the tranny slipped....

I cannot immmmmagine how this poor kid felt when he finally received his car and that was what he saw!! His father had it towed to me friends shop where it sat for months and finally was sold to a guy local for him and his son to rip apart and practice on.. No info. past that.

3rd gens are really rare around me and when they do come up they are usually high dollar and in need of too much for the bucks....

On my quest to find a 68/69 charger I found an add that simply stated Charger R/T for sale...$6900.....i emailed the guy and drove 3 hours right away to buy it...if it was solid
when I got there I found a car I had no idea existed...a 1971 Charger R/T very solid and way different and cooler then I thought...I loved it!
$5500 later I owned this project car....that was 7 years ago
In my area of Ontario the only 3rd gen cars I see are at mopar fest.......yet I see my fair share of 68-70 chargers........there is no way I could buy a driver car for less than $7000 for a 73 or 74....anything less is rusted out junk
however I wouldn't buy anything but a 71 R/T or a 72 rallye car......the rest of the 3rd gen model years to me are not Muscle cars....even though my Very first car I ever owned was a 1974 charger SE 360.....rusty piece of junk lol, but i liked it at the time
