Early 68 dual snorkel air cleaner - which one?

Even if I got one that would accept a pie tin I have no idea what it should say. I'm about 99% sure mine would not have had one.

Dino

I need to dig up some parts.  I have a dual snorkel with the hose running around the side or back.  It has a TNT pan so it must've been on my '71 440.  Looks pretty much the same I think but haven't looked at it for a while.

Nope, I checked all my references and the photo is fine - the wiper motor notch is there. My mistake. But I think the finish on the dual snorkel air cleaner you showed is not correct. It should be a smooth black finish. As I'm in the middle of a move all my reference books are tucked away nicely in boxes, probably going to suffer the same fate as the Lost Ark of the Covenant. Here is a photo of a properly fitted dual snorkel air cleaner, imho.  :Twocents:

Dan

Edit - the air cleaner should also have the word "FRONT" on the front. Again, imho.

Interesting heater hose routing.

no idea either  ,
although you use to be able to buy decals , dont think these tall dome twin snorkels had them though from the factory  :scratchchin:  , some one had all ready painted the twin snorkel  i bought gloss black  , & put a  either a 383 four barrel or magnum decal on , i forget which  :scratchchin:
IMO don't think i would put anything on , that type twin snorkel  .

It may be a c-body snorkel, the 440 HP engine in my 69 came out of a 71 squad car.  I'm pretty sure the tin says Chrysler TNT but haven't looked at that one in a while either.  Did Polara's and the likes have a dual snorkel on squad cars?  I'll dig it up and post some pics with measurements asap.

I agree. Only the unsilenced air cleaners had the wrinkle finish.

One more question. Has anyone tried fitting one of these dual snorkel 5" base plates onto a Holley Street Avenger? I think they're both right at 5" so I'm wondering how one would fit?

One other question: What determined if you got the silenced or unsilenced air cleaner? Could you order it that way... was it a California thing?

Ghoste

I don't think you had a choice.  I think it was a California thing or dependent on the engine. (two barrel versus four barrel) :shruggy:

Dans 68

It may (imo I don't think so - I believe it was added later as the default with California not having the choice) have been a California thing, but if it received a snorkelled air cleaner then a two barrel air cleaner had one snorkel and the 4-barrel had two.

But you can get silenced air cleaners for both 2 and 4bbl carbs. Most (if not all) 2bbl silenced air cleaners had the single snorkel while the 4bbl versions were dual snorkel. I don't know that I've ever seen an unsilenced air cleaner on a 2bbl car.

Or, what Dan just said. :2thumbs:

And its just a simple basic air cleaner.

Yea, I know. Until you want it to look right like a sliding or pivoting ash trays, a 1967-4 or 1968-1 seat belt tags, lines or wrinkles in your dash bezels, etc. :brickwall:

going on from this alittle , not to get too side tracked but , noise reduction package
i mentioned something like this in the Bullet charger thread , i always assumed 68 cars sold in California had turndowns too instead of tips , but apparently not the case ,  :popcrn:

Here you go tt.  It's a 500GB.  I have a 1 TB & I think 250GB.  The 1 is way more than I'll ever use.  They've come down in price as well.  If you watch the sales you can get a 2TB for like $150.00.

Real simple.  They come with a USB cable that you plug into your puter.  I always click on "Computer" to see ahead of time what's listed & then plug in the Hard Drive USB to see whatever letter is new.  That's where it'll be from now on when you save pix.  When you go to save a pic, the hard drive designation will drop down too so you can send it straight there.
I have about 30 files for different pix so it's somewhat clutter free.

Best thing you can do for your computer.   :Twocents: :Twocents: Keeps it running fast & clutter free.  FLG hooked me up, he said Western Digital or Seagate were the brands he liked.

He also recommended www.newegg.com for good deals.

Best part is if your puter ever crashes permanently you'll never lose the pix.  I went overboard with 2.  I back up everything from the one to the other.  I have too many years of saving stuff so it was worth it to me to get the 2nd one.
